Weapons Guide

Basics

All damage values were estimated, and may be slightly off.

Testing was done without any damage perk.

Arum can cancel her attacks at any point after her startup frames into a jump, dodge, or special. In the case of aerials, this means she can fire off an airdash, quick aerial, jump cancel, aerial, airdash cancel quite rapidly.

Aerials all deal relatively weak damage. While they're good for chipping enemies down, you should use grounded combos or specials whenever opportunity allows.

With the dash damage perk from the rat quest, Arum's dash deals a beefy 80 damage.

Scythe

The Scythe is the basic starting weapon, but it is surprisingly robust. It is your best fighting weapon for quite some time, and remains useful for pretty much the whole game. Arum actually shouts while using it, unlike her other weapons. A programming oversight?

Aerial (30 damage)

A big swing that covers below Arum. Has the best aerial hitbox up until the endgame.

Combo 1 (30 damage)

A fast swing that covers a wide area in front and a little behind Arum.

Combo 2 (60 damage, 90 total)

Basically the same as Combo 1 but htis a lot harder. A very strong attack.

Combo 3 (180 damage, 270 total)

A much slower, harder hitting overhead chop.

Special (230 damage)

A brief windup before a big horizontal swing. One of the best uses of white meter throughout the whole game.

Sword

The weakest weapon in Arum's arsenal, despite being the only actual weapon. The main draw of the sword is its ability to reflect projectiles; almost every enemy projectile in the game can be reflected by the sword. The reflect is quite powerful, around 100 damage or so.

Aerial (30 damage)

Hits higher than its hitbox suggests, roughly as high as Ducroak's head.

Combo 1 (30 damage)

A short, quick slash.

Combo 2 (50 damage, 80 total)

Another quick slash. Very weak for a second combo hit.

Combo 3 (160 damage, 240 total)

A slow overhead slash. You'd easily confuse the sword combos for copies of the scythe combos, but they do a lot less damage.

Special (150 damage)

A charging slash. Fast and covers a lot of ground, but disappointing for the white meter cost.

Bow

Arum's super long-range weapon. Each shot costs white meter, but safe attacks with good damage can be a good expenditure.

Aerial (40 damage)

An aerial arrow. Arum's highest damage aerial, at the cost of white meter.

Arrow (40 damage)

The same as the air arrow. Comes out very fast, virtually instant and great for squeezing in damage when a boss is whiffing attacks far away. Has a brief cooldown.

Special (160 damage)

Costs as much white meter as 4 arrows, and deals as much damage as 4 arrows. Takes quite a while to fire, so the main use of this is to scope out a boss' HP bar. Not a bad use, but the damage isn't as good as using the scythe special.

Club

YES. Arum's strongest weapon, it deals absolutely stupid levels of damage and has reasonable reach. Its combo deals the same as the scythe combo, but comes out faster (but with fewer cancel windows).

Aerial (30 damage)

Shorter than the scythe and less coverage below and behind Arum.

Combo 1 (90 damage)

A bit slow, but 90 damage for a first hit is absurd.

Combo 2 (180 damage)

WHOMP. Slow but not that slow, and the damage is insane.

Special (240 damage)

The strongest attack in the game. Also generates some cash. Unfortunately a bit shorter than the scythe special, and costs slightly more. Still worth it.

Umbrella

The fast rapier-like weapon. Also has good anti-air hitboxes, but sadly there aren't many flying enemies in 8Doors. Its fast attacks allow you to cancel out early with a dodge roll, but the damage falls behind scythe or club. You'll need to use it in a few fights that require the weather protection.

Aerial (30 damage)

Huge hitbox above and in front of Arum. The second-best air-to-air aerial Arum has, but rarely sees use.

Combo 1 (30 damage)

A very quick, short-ranged slash.

Combo 2 (50 damage, 80 total)

Another very quick slash.

Combo 3 (55 damage, 135 total)

A very quick stab.

Combo 4 (80 damage, 215 total)

A final, very quick stab.

Special (no damage or cost)

Instantly shields Arum from projectiles coming from above, makes her immune to waterfalls and blizzards. While held, Arum cannot jump. If used in the air, Arum falls slowly.

Lamp

Holding it makes the area bright, which is sometimes helpful. A weaker version of the club, with more reach and a very interesting special. Notably, the area is brightened even while riding Ducroak, which is essential.

Aerial (30 damage)

A very quick thrust. The worst hitbox of any of Arum's non-bow aerials, but still servicable.

Combo 1 (90 damage)

Same as Club's combo 1, but with more reach.

Combo 2 (125 damage, 215 total)

Again, same as the Club, but with more reach and much lower damage. Confuses you with the satisfying WHOMP, but don't be fooled, it's counterfeit.

Special (60 damage)

A very short-ranged burst around Arum. Costs a ton of white meter. On the plus side... it gives Arum a single hit damage shield and is the only way Arum can convert white meter to defense. Fantastic for exploration. For bosses, spend your white meter on damage like arrows or SUPER WHOMP.

Fan

Your reward for reaching the endgame. Stupidly huge hitboxes -- functionally a ranged weapon with massive coverage above and below. Amazingly easy to use, which is why you should stick to club.

Aerial (30 damage)

The biggest aerial, dwarfing umbrella in air-to-air coverage and scythe in air-to-ground coverage.

Combo 1 (40 damage)

About the same speed as scythe 1, but with 10 more damage and a massive hitbox.

Combo 2 (75 damage, 115 total)

About the same speed as scythe 2, but with ridiculous damage and a monster hitbox.

Combo 3 (80 damage, 195 total)

Don't use this, abort your string and just do the first two attacks. The worst combo ender other than its massive hitbox, but it's the same as the first two hits.

Special (125 damage)

A huge special with lackluster damage. Save your white meter for arrows or Super WHOMP.
