Dear Sirs,

After a thorough investigation, we have found no signs of unauthorized intruders in the mine. The worker who reported seeing unusual activity has been referred to the local doctor's office for medical evaluation. I hope that brings this matter to rest.

Sincerely, John Alden

Letter 2 Letter 2 - Billy's Letter - A letter written by a miner who worked for Fairhaven Mining Co. before it shut down.

Dear Joanna, I wanted to wait until I got off the ferry to tell you this, but I need to hear what you think. Hazel and Robert have told me about a plot of land that's for sale. The soil's good, Joanna, as good as my parents' farm. There's even a loft in the attic you could use as an art studio. And it's right near the beach so we can take Thomas and Crystal swimming. Just think about it. We can talk more when I get home. Love, Billy

Letter 3 Letter 3 - Eddie's First Letter - A letter written by a miner who worked for Fairhaven Mining Co. before it shut down.

Dad, Did you ever see anything kinda strange when you worked in the mine? I went down to the bottom level today and I swore I saw the oddest looking little person - but he had gray skin, and not gray from dust, either. But then I blinked and he was gone! I told the foreman and I can tell he thinks I've lost my marbles. I need your advice. Your Son, Eddie

Letter 4 Letter 4, Level 18 - John's Second Letter - A letter written by a foreman who worked for Fairhaven Mining Co. before it shut down.

Dear Sirs, It is my unfortunate duty to report that the damage done to our rotary drill rig, out dragline and out hydraulic shovel was intentional. Whoever it was knew what he was doing. Whether it was a disgruntled employee or even sabotage by a competing mining concern is not for me to say. But the culprit will be easy to spot. He left strands of red hair behind. We'll get to the bottom of this soon enough. Sincerely, John Alden

Letter 5 Letter 5, Level 19 - Eddie's Second Letter - A letter written by a miner who worked for Fairhaven Mining Co. before it shut down.

Dad.

If I make it out alive, I'm never coming back in this mine again. The keys to the lower levels keep going missing, one by one. I was on Level 4 and the door slammed, and I heard the most awful shriek you can ever imagine! The boys and I talked it over and we're decided - we're quitting soon as we get this week's pay. I'll see you soon.

Your Son, Eddie
