Intro

You are welcome to skip this its me on a rant about this guide!

So you chose this guide cause your like me. looked all over YouTube and Reddit found pointless videos that are either outdated or don't go into enough detail or are too long well guess what this is going to be the only guide anyone needs and i wont confuse you with the technical terms like what a bool is and what a int is you don't care about that all you wan to know is how to do the cool stuff i will go into detail in how you do it exactly how you should other guides gate keep important info i'm here to stop that

i never had anyone to help me i never could follow along with YouTube videos when Avi 3.0 came out i didn't know how to use the animation tools i used a tool to make toggles for me at first that's after i figured out how to animate in unity its because i'm mainly a blender person in blender you just make the the action/change then add key frame but there's a record button in unity and that confused the hell out of me well if you read that rant thank you for listening to me i appreciate it no one ever listens to me well on with the guide!

What you need for your first Avatar! Unity 2019 LTS

Dynamic bones | on the unity store as a paid asset and for legal reasons i have to say dont ask for it from one of your freinds

VRC sdk | Log into the VRchat website and go to downloads use sdk 3.0 not 2.0Shaders i recommend for your first avi

Poiyomi | paid version on patreon and free version on github

Mochies shaders | paid version on patreon and free version on github

Making your first Unity project!what you are going to need to download i say this as a need cause it is much easier to manage everything is Unity hub you can download versions on it as well as manage every project you make

once you have that you can continue

alright open the unity hub you may need to make an account this will give you access to the unity store

make your project a 3D core project

when you done your going to need to import the sdk first then your shaders

Importing And Setting Up The Avi

After you have your shaders and the sdk imported

there are 2 types of imports i will go over how to do them both and common problems and fixes

but for now the only thing you need to do is import the unity package that came with your avi either in a zip or directly downloaded

Pre setup importsPre set ups are what the avi comes like basically look for a unity scene where the avi files are and open that the only thing you have to worry about is setting up the materials right every avi package for the most part should of a read me of some sort to tell you what shaders they used incase there are translucent effects or any effects for that matter also if the avi comes with anything like images in the scene delete those it will save you a little storage on your PC and load times on unity you need those load times honestly cause half the time your in unity is either picking what you want your avi to look like or hoping the unity gods dont crash your editor as you import one png

Raw importsthis is more for advanced users you problaby wont need this for your first avi

what a raw import is when you import a rigged fbx now people going into avi creation might want to edit there fbx well raw imputs they have a set up process

Setting up the rig in unity: to set it up click on your imported fbx im the asset browser in the inspector witch is on the right of your screen by default click on the rig button then set your rig as humanoid then click apply now your not done here most avis use blendshapes or shape keys (those 2 are the same just worded differently in both software's) they use those to make the mouth move so what your going to need to do is click configure in the rig section of the inspect if it asks you to save your project click yes now dont be afraid of what you see next alls you need to do is check for 2 things while your in here first in the body tab on the right make sure the chest and spine are in there propper places sometimes unity gets those 2 mixed up now where you see the green man on the right there should be a head button click that and make sure nothing is on the jaw bone then your done now this menu is a little bugged so on the far right scroll bar scroll all the way done then click apply let unity try not to crash then you have to click done if you didnt go back to the normal then were done with this step

Set your view port: this is really simple so click on your custom avis name on the left where the list of objects is that are in the scene then on the right in the inspector click add component and look for "VRC" in the search bar and add the VRC avatar descriptor now click on view then click on the edit button set the ball it put in the scene in between the eyes then where the edit button was click return then your finished with that

Set your mouth up to move when you talk: on the right click lipsync then click auto detect then your done with that if you wanna be sure just dubble check if every thinf is in the right place

Publishing The Avi

Congrats if unity hasn't broken down then unity can run smoothly on your pc!

The VRchat SDK controll pannlewelcome to the portal where you will put your persona or fursona on vrchat spend time on this social platform where you will sleep and stare at a mirror and talk to people... (i have 3k+ hours why?)

login with the SDK with your login info for your VRchat account then make sure you auto fix all the red icons then you can upload then pray to god unity doesn't crash while its compiling the shaders of your avatar after that name it dont worry about the tags to choose from that's not important the click the check box that everything is correct then upload its as easy as that
