When a mana orb is collected, the player who picks it up receives ~20% ult charge while their party members receive ~15%. The mage will receive a heal charge no matter who grabbed the orb.

Currently there are two ways to spawn mana orbs.

Mage basic attacks and the trinket Grimoire of Blight.

To spawn mana orbs with the basic attack you simply need to hit enemies. With the Grimoire you need to hit and do damage, meaning that if enemies are invulnerable in any way (Amalgamation's shield aura for example) the grimoire won't be able to spawn mana orbs.

The more enemies you hit, the better your chances of spawning mana orbs. Meaning that mages with Gravity Well, or with a teammate that can pull enemies, end up spawning more mana orbs than mages without.

Besides mana orbs, classes have other ways to charge their ult.

Warriors can spend rage stacks to get a hefty amount of ult charge. They also get ult charge by having aggro.

Mages get 10% ult charge per party member/survivor healed.

Assassins get ~4% ult charge for every combo point spent.

Assassins can cancel the Expose Weakness animation by using roll, if done correctly no combo point will be spent but the damage will be done and the ult charge granted.

Knowing that, you can get double the value from combo points or you can even exclusively use Expose Weakness to attack if you have a Titan Skinner equipped.

Assassins are also the only class that can get ult charge from hitting boxes, so it's good to let your team know when you want to use some boxes to charge your ult so they don't break them by accident.

Generally enemies will focus the first player they see, in most cases the Warrior should be the one starting encounters.

You can know if an enemy has aggro on you by looking at their health bars.

The one on the left means you have aggro, the one on the right means you don't.

Proximity to enemies is also relevant, players distant from enemies acquire less aggro.

Taking Aggro

Most of the Warrior attacks will pull aggro from enemies, this includes basic attacks. The enemies Elusive Wretch and Amalgamation prefer to focus allies that don't have aggro and require more incentive to change their target. Most of the time, they'll need to be hit by a skill that forces aggro change such as Taunting Roar or Lawbringer.

When the Amalgamation is forced to change targets it'll drop the shield aura for a short while, the party can use this to their advantage.

Losing Aggro

The easiest way to lose aggro, besides being downed, is by getting stealth through one of the Assassin's skills Smoke Bomb or Death From Above.

When your character is green, you are stealth.

It's important to know that when enemies lose aggro on you they'll sometimes still use their attack at the last location they were able to see you, so don't stand too close to where you got the stealth. Lasers coming from enemies can still follow you if they were cast before you went into stealth.

Warriors with Lawbringer can purposefully miss their ult to lose aggro, this can be useful to make sure enemies focus your followers.

Followers

Warriors have access to Phalanxes and to the Ancient Follower.

The Ancient Follower looks exactly like a warrior under the effects of Awaken Ancient, be careful to not confuse the two during combat.

Followers are immortal and can hold enemy aggro. If the Warrior attacks the same enemy as them, the enemy will usually prefer to attack the Warrior instead. Followers will bait enemy attacks, but not actually take the hit. If you're playing as Mage or Assassin don't stand too close to followers that are under attack or you'll get the baited hit.

When downed, try crawling to a more opportune position in order to allow for a safer ress. If two players are downed, it's smart to crawl in opposite directions to give more options to the alive player.

While on the ground, you can use your body to block lasers.

Boxes can also be used to block lasers.

As long as the player reviving doesn't leaves the range to revive, they can slide freely around the downed player which allows for some clutch dodges.

Writhing Orbs

Spawns in some encounters, but is more commonly found when summoned by the Writhing Oracle, Writhing Acolytes or Hansol Clock (Writhing Orb Vesper). Deals a bunch of damage on contact.

In most cases, the best way to deal with them is to kite them away from teammates. It's important to know they despawn when nearby downed players and that they can damage lesser enemies, use that for your advantage.

You know when an enemy is summoning one when those symbols appear.

Queen B'eemAn elite variation of the Sightless Hag. Sends lasers in multiples directions while also having a targeted laser. Very dangerous enemy, if you stand too close it's possible to get hit by many lasers at the same time.

I recommend bursting them before they can do anything. If that's not possible, try using walls, boxes, followers and downed teammates to block the lasers.

Protector Oli

An elite version of the Amalgamation. Being a Piñata makes it extra tanky, while being a Commander allows for it to summon Wretches within it's shielding aura.

What makes it so dangerous is the possibility of having a priority target such as a Queen B'eem within it's aura, giving them extra time to burst the party down.

If your party has access to Taunting Roar, Cryoblast Shot or Lawbringer you can use them to disable the aura for a few seconds, giving an opportunity to kill the protected enemies. Otherwise, try taking dangerous enemies out of the aura.

Vesper

Has an attack that deals damage and spawns bonewalls in a line, and an attack that deals damage in its surroundings. It will use the bonewall attack and the surrounding AoE at the same time. I've seem many players looking only for the bonewall attack, ending up getting hit by the AoE one.

If you have Vesper's aggro, be mindful of the position of teammates to avoid killing them with a bonewall attack intended for you.

Abusing AI

Most enemies have only horizontal attacks, meaning that if you position yourself below or above them it will make so they need to move to your side before being able to attack you. You can use that to you advantage. The bigger the enemy, the better.

If your teammates are downed, and know about this, they can position themselves to allow for a clutch ress.

The Creeping BlightIf you are careful enough you can grab the key without triggering the encounter, Warriors have the easiest time doing this since they can slow themselves down with shield block. Alternatively, Mages can teleport, Assassins can Death From Above and Warriors can Bull Charge out of the room before the block comes up.

Khuliath, the Mountain GiantMages can teleport while Assassins can Death From Above over the gap, which ends up being faster than pulling the box in the right.

Underhold DepthsYou can skip the fight in the central room by rushing to another door.

Darkness EmbraceInstead of pulling boxes, two players can press the plates while another triggers the door. Make sure to stand on the edge of the plate to load the door faster. It's also possible with bots but ends up being easier to just pull the boxes.

This is one of the solutions to the puzzle on the Abandoned Catacomb.

This puzzle is not guaranteed to spawn since it shares the room with other variations.

You can skip crypts by leaving immediately. Rooms with enemies are skippable as long as nobody gets aggro.

INSERT16Combining this with optimal pathing makes Darkness Embrace the fastest map, which is great to level up characters and do stories.

Darkness Embrace has three different spawn points. From my tests, these are the routes with the most time save.

Do be careful when leaving crypts, if you break the walking out animation and use a locomotion skill it might make so the gate doesn't close and/or the crypt doesn't count towards the mission. In the case of the gate not closing, sometimes bringing the entire party back to the crypt's entrance can make it close.

Possible Questions

How Do I Get That Item? What Happened To The Recommended Builds Section?

Grimoire of Blight, Titan Skinner and Siurd's Might can be aquired through crafting or drop. You can check what mobs drop in the in-game bestiary.

Sun's Restoration: Collect Sun Shards by playing as Kromn and use them to craft it.

If you can't see a certain item available to craft in the blacksmith that means you need a higher refuge level to be able to craft it.
