[10 ways to play better online]

Hello everyone! My name is Cyrus The Great. I have been playing online battles for a couple of years and thought it would be nice to help rookies out.

Back in the day I struggled with basics mechanics of multiplayer. It was annoying to say at very least - learning new game on your own is always rough. Don't repeat this mistake! Find someone better who will be your teacher and authority. Play with various army compositions, different rules and maps.

If you want to become a new champion, or simply beat that one guy who's always better, continue reading.

10 Essential Steps To Become A Better Player! 1/2

1. Play and win or lose with honor - don't be a troll, don't break *rules and be nice, even if you just lost (seems weird?).

*rules - to make game fair and more balanced, host set rules.

------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Let's take look at most common one : max 6/2 cav no gun ele art.

This means that you're allowed to bring max 6 cavalry units in total, including general, but not more than 2 horse archers within it. You must not bring gunpowder nor artillery units. There's no limit on either infantry or foot skirmishers, such as crossbows or archers.

------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Ensure you always bring max cav units you're allowed to - cavalry is leading, crucial force.

2. Everyone and everything is beatable - doesn't matter who or what.

In a nutshell - anyone claiming to be an unbeatable is cheap liar you should avoid playing with.

3. Learn and use TEAMwork.

Playing a 2v2, 3vs3 or even 4v4 battles means you're responsible not only for your own, but for your allies as well.

(T E A M W O R K is key to win! No matter how good you are, there's no way to win a team battle without collaboration.

4. Fun and skill are required to truly enjoy game.

5. Learn from your mistakes. Always save replays to make further analyzes easier. Try to note what are you struggling with - this will make things more clear. If you keep losing, watch a replays and find out what exactly let your enemies win. Do a research, repeat moves of better players and don't give up!

6. Every battle is great occasion to became a better player. If you lost, watch replay and see what exactly failed. If you won, you should study replay as well - this time focus more on analyzing enemy's moves and his mistakes.

Don't think you're best. You are not. There's always something you can do better. This rules apply for all skill levels. ALL.

7. Everything can be countered - from frontal cavalry charge to elephants.

Don't panic if you see elephants rushing towards you. Stay ready, steady and focused in every situation - it helps a lot.

I lost too many battles because I couldn't calm down fast enough and focus on actual battle.

Remember, fear is worse than fighting.

Experienced players hate people who don't follow rules. Don't be one of these fools.

Many veterans have forgotten days when they were rookies themselves. I have not. But if you want to play online, please AT LEAST follow rules and be nice. This will make whole community better.

.................................................................................................

My own skill rating system:

A) newcomers - a bunch of rookies trying to learn the game;

B) good players - self-explanatory;

C) veterans - experienced elite. You should respect them.

And finally:

D) n00bs - trolls, idiots, spammers and rest of ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥t.

Don't waste time arguing with them.

Don't feed trolls.

Ignore them completely.

10 Essential Steps To Become A Better Player! 2/2

8. There are no best cavalry or infantry units in game. Most of the time spam of Chivalric knights as cav and inf will do job just fine. Don't forget to bring pavese x-bows though.

9. This game is all about cooperation between cavalry and infantry. Find out how this works exactly and you'll become a good player soon.

10. Let's talk about time periods available in game:

Early period - pretty unbalanced one, favors western factions (HRE/France, Sicily) and Byzantines over eastern ones. For newcomers, these three factions are best choice.

High period - arguably most balanced one but it's tough to find somebody still playing it.

High period puts emphasis on bringing mixed armies, often with large amount of cav units.

Usually there are two rulesets: max 8/3 cav no gun ele art 10k or max 6/2 cav no gun ele art 12.5k each player.

First rule-set makes Poland and Scotland very strong, second one is more balanced - I'd say that Moors have the best roster within all factions.

Late period - nobody even host a game on it. It's all based on musketeers, pikes and light cavalry. Considering that first of these two are as bugged as powerful, it's still worth trying.

All periods - most popular nowadays. Easy to learn. Pavese are key to win skirmish fight. High money games (15k and more) favors already strong factions such as Spain or Portugal.

By The Way...

A) what does 8/3 cav mean?

It's seriously easy to understand: 8 cavalry units is maximum you can bring. 3 of them can be missile (mounted archers or crossbows). General's bodyguards ALWAYS count as cavalry.

B) flat maps and clear weather are most helpful to improve your skills

C) don't give up fight too early! Especially in team battles - every soldier means a lot, especially horseman one :)

D) Suprise your enemy and make a comeback! This video-guide should be helpful:

Bunch of useful tips

How to set clear weather on Grassy plain:

1. Select map without cross (sea of grass an example).

2. Set clear weather.

3. Switch map to grassy plain again.

4. Enjoy always clear weather.

Also:

- N E V E R play if you feel tired, mad, nervous etc. NEVER. Its self-explanatory.

- AVOID these units in vanilla (base) game:

- Dismounted gothic knights/ Gothic knights; Forlorn Hope, Zwei-Hander (HRE)

- Jenissary Heavy Infrantry (Turks)

- Lancers (France)

More of them are listed in this vid:

These units are mostly affected by 2-handed bugs and are very expensive. Bringing them does not make any sense at all. Better players will just laugh at you.

- Playing without rules and 1000000 money doesn't make sense. It makes game unbalanced, not to mention that nobody good plays it.

- "Free for all" games should be played by 4, 6 or 8 players on flat maps

- Don't join sieges (and pitches as well) if you don't have enough time for playing...

- Don't spam in lobby. If you lost - well... it happens to everyone. Don't rage :)

- Be yourself but stay nice

- Usually, balanced army is your best bet. Even if you are rushing, you should get some archers/crossbows (even cheap).
