You should mostly ignore the rarity/color of the three traits you pick since there is very little link between quality and rarity/color for traits. The stats that are most valuable in this game for a beginner are attack, luck, comprehension and combat movement speed. You should aim to get those stats higher thanks to your starting traits.

Increasing your aptitude in any element/martial art is pointless since you can change your chosen playstyle at any time and you will easily be able to incease this stat up to a higher threshold as you play. Lifespan is entirely irrelevent as it is very difficult to die of old age even when intentionaly trying to.

You should choose and focus on only one of all the Elements or Martial Arts as a first-time player. As a beginner avoid Spear, Thunder, Wind and Water ; the more beginner-friendly choices are Sword and Fire but the rest are all very usable currently. Refer to the wiki here[tale-of-immortal.fandom.com] for an overview of the elements/martial arts.

Important note : the loading screen after character creation should take a while (most likely over a minute), if it is fast (10 seconds) you likely are encountering the world generation bug. Lookup the fix on Discord or on the wiki here[tale-of-immortal.fandom.com] . If you are stuck on the second island of the tutorial you will need to apply that fix.

This is the fix :

The towns and locations on your world map are randomly generated meaning the basic layout of the world map is constant however the exact location of most places and towns is randomized. Examples of maps here[tale-of-immortal.fandom.com] . Pickup the flying sword mount from the first city you visit it will make your movement across the map faster.

Try and pickup better skills from towns, you should try to have as many passives as you can. You can only have one passive of each type. The biggest city/capital in your region has more choices in skills for your next breakthrough. You should also try to find your selected element/matial art's sect for you region quite fast. In each region there is exactly one sect that hande each element/martial art. You can easily know what a sect specializes in by looking at what the entry requirements are. If an element/martial art is on it then that sect deals with that. Enter your sect to have access to better skills as well as fruits that can improve your points in that element/martial art. More on sects here[tale-of-immortal.fandom.com] .

To be able to use more and better passives you need dao points. One of the easiest ways to acquire dao experience is by dual-cultivatiing with people of the opposite gender, debating works aswell.

Skill learning minigame : left click on blue orbs // right click on red orbs

Skill requirements : if your aptitude in an element/martial art for a skill is too low you should go buy fruits in your sect to increase that stat (up to 50 for the first region). Beware since some skills have a cultivation realm requirement, for instance some skills require you to be Crystalization and you thus won't be able to use them as Foundation. Check the banner at the top left of the skill description to see what realm is required.

All the stones required to get past the 2 bottlenecks between each breakthrough are available in any city shop (for foundation) and in your capital's city shop for crystallization.

Regarding the foundation breakthrough, you should always get the heavenly breakthrough. It gives considerable more stats and is actually not that much harder to get. You only need to get 3 out of the top row of items. You can find those in the 3 icy-caves looking dungeons that cost 500 stones to enter. The ones that cost 1000 stones are for the crystallization breathrough. Each always drops the same treasure once cleared and each drops a different treasure. Clearing each once will grant you all 3 treasures required.

You will then want to collect all 6 of the element materials on the bottom line, one of each element. You can either fight the bosses that randomly spawn on their element zones (check your notifications) or you can collect fragment and assemble them into the material at the capital's alchemy building. The zones are and by randomly walking in the zone you can get aggroed, if you win that fight you will gain 10 to 30 fragments for that zone's element. 100 are needed to make the material. The rarity/color of the material only affects the chance to succeed the breakthrough, nothing else at all.

If you fail a breakthrough you lose none of the materials or treasures you acquired. The only thing that happens if you have to survive the thunder tribulation which is to survive for X seconds while taking damage from thunder. This can easily be savescummed and you likely should be savescumming regardless in order to get a choice between decent fates upon successful breakthrough.

Savescumming = quiting the game and reloading to the previous save.

Foundation Fate

Fates are the "perks" you choose after succeeding in a breakthrough. You get to choose between 3 options, quite a few of them are amazing but most are useless. The specific one you should try to get will heavily depend on your element/martial art, playstyle and experience in the game.

Fates that can be good choices for a beginner are :

Lifesteal (Blood Demon Law)

Cooldown Reduction to Spear/Sword/Blade (only exists for these 3 martial arts and only affects your left mouse skill)

Defense increase with Age (Old and Strong)

No casting condition on Ultimates (X Specialization)

Blood Sacrifice - Spirit Sword - Plum Sword

Recommended if Sword : Cooldown reduction - Blood Sacrifice

Recommended if Fire : Blood Sacrifice - Spirit Sword - Plum Sword

Old and Strong is always good if you like to take your time while playing.

Miscellaneous Information

The game saves each month while your computer is simulating all the other character's movement for the month.

If you ever get treasures/materials extra, sell them at the auction house located in the capital to make much more than by selling to the shop npc.

Crafting, Talisman and Mining are not yet implemented in the game, meaning they have no real use as of now.

Rarity from least rare : Grey < Green < Blue < Purple < Orange < Red : most rare.

Money making : stealing then selling to auction is the most effective currently, read more here[tale-of-immortal.fandom.com] .

Refer here[tale-of-immortal.fandom.com] for details on what the stats for your character mean.

The Fortune Teller is basically useless, more details here[tale-of-immortal.fandom.com] .
