How To Install And Play On Steam

You do not have to own stalker to play it (It comes in a standalone package), but you can point it to your steam install of SOC and have it track playtime.

Will show you how to install and do that now.

How to installDownload from moddb and follow the instructions from there. Search for Memories of the Zone if you don't trust my link.

Track Hours on SteamTo track your game hours on steam and also enable game recording, add the game as a non-steam game.

Find the executable in the bin_x64 folder of your install and add xrEngine.exe to your steam. (Not the shortcut)

Create a new txt file in the folder of the game executable and name it steam_appid.txt

Add 4500 into the file and save.

Remember to right click and go to properties, then add -steam to launch options, otherwise the game will crash upon launch.

Other Things

English VoicesTo enable English voices (There are no subtitles for most types of speech), navigate to gamedata>sounds and delete "characters_voice" folder, do not touch "sounds - ENG voices Copy". This information is taken from the mod page comment section.

Settings SuggestionsTurn MSAA off and use FXAA if your framerate is low.

Turn Threaded optimization to Off from your graphics settings control panel for this game.

If you have a freesync or gsync monitor that goes above 60fps, turn vsync off in the game and enjoy smoothness. Set Vertical Sync to Fast from your control panel.

Play with fullscreen options to see what works best. for me I disabled fullscreen.

Don't bump everything to the max even with a modern GPU because there are some weird settings. Start with quality settings set to High and then work from there using the advanced settings.

Set Render to the DX11 option.

If you cannot reload, turn off "Ammo on belt" from the gameplay settings.

Trouble with EndingIf you experience trouble with the ending, various fixes have been commented there as well, one of them is as follows:

Enjoy SOC! The game is hard. Make sure to toggle settings so that it runs well and difficulty is to your liking. It will be doable.
