Intro
Hello everybody! Have you seen little comics on the artwork tab of Slime Rancher 2 and thought "Wow I really want to make one!"?
Well guess what? You've come to the right place! I shall teach you how to make a silly little comic about your favorite slimes!!! (This is literally just an art tutorial but ok)
Brainstorm Comic
Before you make a comic, you gotta plan it out. Think of a silly lil story involving some slimes and what shenanigans they'll be in.
You got a basic idea for a comic now? Great! Moving on...
Sketch It!!!
To make a comic, you gotta draw it. Feel free to use any digital art program or draw it on paper if you want. I will be using Kleki.[kleki.com] Sketch out your comic on the first layer using a color that stands out. (I will be using red.) The reason I like sketching things out is to help prepare what I'm about to draw instead of just guessing it.
You probably have no idea what's happening in this sketch but it'll make sense when I clean it up, which is what we'll do in the next step!
Clean It Up!!!!
When your done with your sketch, create a new layer over the sketch layer, set the sketch layer to a lower opacity, and use the sketch as a guideline to start drawing on the new layer.
Boom we have it cleaned up let's goooooo
However, it looks a bit boring without any colors...
Make It Look Pretty!!!!
It's time to add color!!! I like to make a new layer and put it behind the layer with the drawing. Feel free to pull up a picture of the slime your drawing so you know what color it is.
Boom you can tell what slimes they are now
But what if you wanna make it prettier?
Shading!!! (optional)
It's time to shade!!! You don't have to if you don't want to, but this adds a bit of detail. I like making a new layer, shading, then changing the opacity.
Alright, it's pretty polished now, but the background's a bit bland...
Background!!!
A background can help show where these slimes are. Are they in the Conservatory? Perhaps Ember Valley? In a cave located in Starlight Strand? Because right now, It looks like these slimes are in some sort of void... Let's fix that!!!!
Tada!!! We made a background!!!
Time Of Day!!! (optional)
Now, we need to set the time of day. You don't have to do this if you want the time of day to be noon. I like to add a tint over the comic in order to show time of day. Mess around with blending modes if you want to.
The first 3 panels are set to a night theme, while the last 2 are supposed to be a sunrise.
Text!!!
Even though we have everything in place, we still don't know what is happening because we don't know what the slimes are saying. I like to make a new layer just for text.
Now it makes sense!!!
Finishing Touches
Time to touch it up a bit! Add shadows, rearrange layers so it looks correct, and fix some mistakes.
Outro
Boom!!! You're done with your silly lil comic!!! Well done!!!
Feel free to show your comic to me. I would love to see what you guys came up with!
Anyway, hopefully this inspired you to make your own little comics. Bye!
(The process if you want to see it again)
