Getting Ready
First, navigate to your Civilization III Complete folder (default is C:\Program Files\Steam\steamapps\common\Sid Meier's Civilization III: Complete(or Program Files (x86) for 64 bit systems)) Open the Conquests folder. you should see Civ3ConquestsEdit.exe, this is what we need to open, but first we must change some settings. Right click on Civ3ConquestsEdit.exe, then Properties, Compatibility, then check "Run this program in compatibility mode for:". Choose Windows XP Service Pack 3, then hit Apply, then OK. Now we can open it up without getting errors (Otherwise it will say unable to find files)
Adding The New Civilizations
Once you are in the editor, click File, then Open. then navigate to the Conquests folder inside the Conquests folder, it contains the scenarios we are looking for. I am using the Middle Ages conquest, but any will work. Click on Scenario, then Scenario Properties. Now hit Players. You will see a box that says Player 1, hit it. Now all players are different Civilizations, just find the ones you want to play as and click on them. You will now see a unchecked box saying Human Player, check it. Then Apply, and once more hit OK. Now, to save this file we need to hit File again, then Save As.
Navigate to the Scenarios folder in Conquests, save it with a new name such as "Middle Ages with more Civs" But it will not work when we open it in-game as it has an incorrect directory.
Fixing Directory Problems
To fix this, make your way to Scenario Properties again, now you will see Scenario Search Folders.
We need to open a second editor to fix this. Once you have opened up the second editor, once again File, then Open. This time we are going to the Scenarios folder, where we saved the new map. You should see the Conquests with MP next to them. Open the one that you had edited before "4 MP Middle Ages for me" then once again to Scenario Properties. Copy the text in the Scenario Search Folders, then go back to the one we are editing. Now, remove all text in the Scenario Search Folders, and paste what we just copied. Now once more Apply, and OK. Back to File, then just Save. Now you should be able to play it without errors.
Some Problems
You are not meant to play as these Civilizations, so sometimes the game becomes unfair or unbalanced, because of this. Sometimes you cannot complete it as these Civilizations, or you are overpowered. If you want to tweak more settings to make it more fair to these new Civs, you can make some more changes in the editior. That guide will come out soon. I hope you enjoyed my first guide, I just want to spread the fact that you can play as these other Civs. If you have any problems, please message me and I will get back to you as soon as I can.
