I. Introduction
This guide contains a lot of useful information about how to beat all the bosses in the addictive game "Rogue Legacy". Of course this is not the only way to fight these bosses, but it's the way I figured out and that made me kill them very fast and without problems. Therefore this guide will contain minor spoilers and I won't use pictures of the bosses so you don't get spoiled if you haven't seen them in game.
I also recommend you to try the bosses for yourself at first and only consider this guide, if you are really stuck. Finding your own strategy is always better.
The chapters II-VI feature all the bosses in the game and the chapter VII show you the ultimate class, which can destroy any boss.
II. Castle Boss: Khidr (The Eye)
Best Class: Dragon (dwarf)
Runes: Retaliation
Tactic:
This should be your first boss and it's really not that hard. Each class works here but if you still have problems I recommend you to use the dragon class because while in flying mode, it is very easy to dodge all projectiles (especially as dwarf) and you have a ranged attack, so you have enough time to prepare for incoming fire. Because the dragon can't jump (and doesn't need to), you should use retaliation runes, so in case you get hit, the enemy gets damaged, too. Make sure you keep flying the whole time and activate flying mode right after you get hit (because a hit switches it off).
III. Forest Boss: Alexander (The Skull)
Class: Hokage or Assasin (giant)
Runes: Dash (1x), Air Jump (1x), Vampirism
Tactic:
This is an easiest boss in my opinion. His attacks are slow and he stopps before attacking, so you know, what to expect. The best thing is to take a charakter that has high damage, so you can kill the smaller skulls flying around with one or two hits. If you have the balance rune, they even restore your hp. Depending on your critical hit chance and damage, the assasin (high crit) or the hokage (low crit) will do. I further recommend to use a giant here, because of the sword range, he can kill the smaller skulls very easily. When you find yourself in the middle of a bunch of skulls, you can use your special combined with dash to evade and line them up one side to kill them altogether.
IV. Tower Boss: Ponce De Leon (The Fireball)
Class: Barbarian (normal sized)
Runes: Dash (1x), Jump (2x), Retaliation
Tactic:
This is the toughest boss. You should use the barbarian because his special (war cry) will shout away all those fireballs that he leaves on his trail. So in order to have enough mana I would not use magic at all in this battle. The best tactic is to slowly move around in a huge circle, always near the wall and attack while retreating. If your circle is "big enough", the fire he leaves behind should vanish before you finished one round. However if you have troubles, just use the war cry to get rid of it. Personally I like dash and jump here because it makes evading easier but more important is the retaliation. As soon as one of those spike balls will hit you, it will take damage and get destroyed. So every spike ball can hit you only once.
V. Darkness Boss: Herodotus (The Slime)
Class: Dragon (P.A.D.)
Runes: Haste
Tactic:
This boss is the easiest of all if you know how to fight him. Use the dragon (size doesn't really matter, but the smaller, the easier to dodge) and attack him until he splits up. At that moment a Gravisor (green flying demon) will appear. Move up and to one side until you reach the ceiling and the guy will follow you but due to the lack of any ground panels he can't attack. So he will wait at the ceiling and you can easily shoot him down. After that you move from to the opposite side and go down, split the slime again the repeat until it's gone. If you have P.A.D. the spikes on the ground don't attack and it's even easier. The haste runes help you attacking the slimes because you can evade the jumps and spikes better.
VI. Final Castle Boss: Johannes (Black Knight)
Class: Archmage with dagger
Runes: Dash (1x), Jump (2x), Haste
Tactic:
This is the final boss and at the beginning he was a real problem for me. Fighting him in a regular way is indeed possible but very hard. However if you use an archmage with the dagger spell, he's a complete joke. At the start, throw the dagger...and throw the dagger again...and again...and again...until he's dead. Each time he gets hit, the dagger throws him back, so he should be far away soon. If you haven't noticed already, if the dagger flys off screen, he keeps flying until he hits something or someone, just check his health bar at the top of the screen. So you just shoot the dagger every 2 seconds and eventually you will have to dodge his dagger throw (5 daggers at once) but this is no problem because he should be far away from you. At first you hear the sound of him throwing the daggers and then you will see some markers at the end of the screen because they're outside of the screen. Just jump over them and keep shooting the daggers.
-----------------------------------
After you killed him, there is a second form, but just use the same tactic. Throw the daggers and he'll be dead soon. The only difference is, that his attacks are more difficult to dodge. If he shouts dagger from the ground, make sure, you're standing in the right position and keep shooting. If he shouts them from the side, use the dash and jumps to evade.
However the final boss should be a pice of cake. Good luck with the next +.
VII. The I-eat-bosses-for-breakfast Class
***THIS CLASS WAS REMOVED FROM CREATION. However it seems to be possible, when you find a magic room and inside is the time stop ability.***
Yeah, there is one combination, that makes every boss a joke.
If you have a spellsword, that has the magic skill time stop, the bosses are screwed. The spellsword regenerates mana with each hit depending on the damage. If however you make enough damage, you can just enter the boss room, stop the time and beat the crap out of the boss because the time stop will never end. The mana you get back is about 30% of the damage (makes use of critical hits). So if you ever get this combination, it's payback time! :D
