First use a non-lethal weapon (read: less-lethal gadget) to reduce the chances of you being shot at when entering a doorway.
Also, make sure no traps are set on said door.
Maybe get some info on where and what is in the room before you enter, so you know where to shoot.
Wear steel armor because you gotta extended your temporary lifespan.
When you enter the room, get to cover before you get turned into a meat-pile.
Use a shield if you feel like you have higher chances of survival when using it.
Get covering/suppresive fire.
