How To Start

This game is a bit bugged, and that starts with the starting menu. If it does not react to mouse clicks, try the tabulator key and "Enter". With some skill, you can later browse between saved games by clicking on the arrow buttons (after highlighting them with tab and the arrow keys).

Btw: Singleplayer = Host a server for one

When To Save

NEVER save when your locomotive is on a turntable - if you leave the game and reenter, your locomotive might have disappeared..

Do not save when your train is parked on a graded line - the couplings might break, and your wagons will roll away (believe me, I tried...)

Where have all the wagons gone? Oh, when will they ever learn?

And if you see a player heading for the woods with a newspaper, he is not doing what you are supposing, he is going for a save...I do not know whether the devs have fixed the bug where you could get stuck in a structure while saving, so I made it a habit to save away from any structure - taking a data dump in the woods...

Save before loading and before unloading - especially with high-value goods such as toolboxes (oh, boy, that cost me...)

ALWAYS save before testing a newly built route - the train might derail or be sent into space (don´t believe me? Just try...)

I can see my house from here...

Laying Tracks

I´m not a specialist in laying tracks, but there are YouTube guides anyway. Suffice to say, you should try using the "alt" key while laying track - slow, but you get really straight lines and wonderful curves. That´s actually the first time that tool tips by the game are helpful (had I just read them before....).

Toolbox Problems

Having problems loading toolboxes into the boxcar?

First of all, the door of the boxcar should be open while loading and the distance between the loading area and your track should be considerable greater than with other loading areas. Same is true for the steel pipes.

Funny thing is, it seems that at the oilfield the distance should be a bit smaller - makes for some diversity in error analysis...

Strategic Thoughts

After making some initial money I just wanted to buy some cool locomotive. I like Betsy, but she is not really impressive. However, the cheapest bigger locomotive is the Eureka - cool, but underwhelming tractive power. However, even the Eureka will cost 2.900 bucks, money that can´t be spent on wagons.

I guess it would be better to invest the money in cars until the line to the coal mine is ready and then go for something bigger.

And maybe you should construct a central yard. Thus Betsy could get all the lumber, beams and cordwood - she is better at shunting anyway - whereas the big beasts make the long hauls to the iron and the coal mine. Best placement would be somewhere in the area southwest of the sawmill, north of the freight depot.

No Money?

Case 1: You have bought everything for the moment, but need money for chopping trees. Well, you haven´t heard that in this game so far: no problem! In that case the game allows you to run into debt. Running into debt even increases your XP.

Case 2: You need money for buying fancy locomotives, expensive tanker cars, whatever. Well, the long freight runs are emotionally rewarding, but less so in monetary terms. Rumors say that firewood depots can be built even inside the logging camps, so technically it should be possible to load wood onto the car and then unload it into the fire depot. But that would be cheating, therefore I do know nothing about it.

Just do it with several cars at once.

3. I nearly forgot: this is a coop/multiplayer game. Invite friends (i.e. persons who are unconditionally surrendering their in-game money to you)!
