NieR Series Extra Content

NieR: Replicant/Gestalt

The original NieR includes many novellas included in the guide book "Grimoire Nier" that can be easily missed by the casual players. I invite you to read it yourself since it has lots of stuff, but I'm going to list what I think are the most interesting/important to the backstory. You can easily find and read these (and all other) entries on the NieR wiki actually.

- NieR: Gestalt/Replicant/ver1.22 game

╰┈➤ "And then there were none" (For the Grimoires character backstory)

╰┈➤ "The stone flower" (Once again, I love character backstories, this time Emil and Halua)

╰┈➤ "Around the world in 80 days" (Emil making himself a new body)

Also...

╰┈➤ "The Little Mermaid" (this became the Louise/Shipwreck section in ver 1.22)

╰┈➤ "The lost world" (this was turned into ending E in ver 1.22)

NieR: Automata

The STAGE PLAYS contain important backstory on NieR: Automata, stuff that might even change your perception on the events of the game, therefore I think they are especially important. Don't worry if you're not a fan of stage plays, both of them have been adapted and translated into a light novel and manga respectively, they are the following:

- NieR: Automata game

╰┈➤ "YoRHa: Pearl Harbor Descent" (manga, see "YoRHa ver. 1.0/1.1/1.2" for stage play)

- Follows Nr. 2 (A2) and gives a lot of context on who she really is, it even makes some parts in the game more special (like when Anemone says "you're... Nr. 2" when first meeting 2B, since she used to know A2) and overall makes A2 a much more defined character in my eyes.

╰┈➤ "NieR Automata: YoRHa Boys" (light novel, see "YoRHa Boys ver 1.0" for stage play)

- Follows the experimental M Squadron, an all-male android squad, which is interesting in itself since the only relevant male character in NieR: Automata is 9S (and maybe Emil). The light novel is written as a log of their missions together and you get to read from multiple characters' perspectives, also I forgot to mention how likable the characters are. Not only that, but you also get to learn the truth behind the formation of YoRHa and what Nr. 9 had to do with all of it.

Feedback

Did I miss something? Do you think something else should be on the list? I appreciate feedback from you in the comments.

Thank you for reading and don't forget to like and favorite (and maybe award) if this guide helped you find new things about the series!
