Introduction
At certain point of the game, you'll gain an item named Cactus Seed. It is one of the rare/precious crops that you get on the game. You required to have Northern Hanging Bridge built. Once it built, the story will progress and show you the access to the field and how to grow them.
The Tools
These are the tools needed to grow rare/precious crops. All tools will affecting 8 tiles around them.
Energy Gathering Urn
As the name suggest, you need these Urns to gather energy from the crops. You'll be given 3 of them for free. You can have max 10 of them.
The require mats to craft the urn :
Five Elements Banner
One of the tools needed to form array to start gathering energy the crops. They have their own respective elements. You'll be given 3 of them for free. You can have 2 of each elements.
The require mats to craft the banner :
Metal element banner need Metal Essence.
Wood element banner need Wood Essence.
Earth element banner need Earth Essence.
Water element banner need Water Essence.
Fire element banner need Fire Essence.At this point of the game, you probably have plenty of them in your inventory.
The Five Virtues
Second tools needed to form array to start gathering energy the crops. They have their own respective elements. You can have 2 of each elements.
The require mats to craft the virtues :
Damage Bones can be mined at Blazing Sands Ridge.
Metal element banner need Golden Disk. You can farm them on Flying route at Blazing Sands Ridge.
Wood element banner need Verdant Leaf. You can farm them from Shadow Scorpion at Guiyun Villa.
Earth element banner need Soft Clay. You can farm them from Muddied Greatsword at Blazing Sands Ridge.
Water element banner need Cold Water Bead.
Fire element banner need Fire Gland.
Fantastic Stone
Last tools needed to form array to start gathering energy the crops. They have their own respective elements. You can have 2 of each elements.
The require mats to craft the stones :
Crystalline Stones can be farmed from Demon Hand enemies at Bright Moon Pass.
Writhing Tentacles can be farmed from Anemone enemies at Salt Strewn Coast.
Tortoise Shells can be farmed from Spirit Turtle enemies.
Metal element banner need Spirit of Metal.
Wood element banner need Spirit of Wood.
Earth element banner need Spirit of Earth.
Water element banner need Spirit of Water.
Fire element banner need Spirit of Fire.
How It Works
I'll use Cactus Seed for a example on how it generally works. First thing first, plant the Cactus Seed in the middle of the field. You will be able to check the status of the crop after you plant it.
Press the button to check the status of the crops and another window will appear.
On the left shows you what array formation needed to grow the crop. You need to put the tools needed on the correct area to enable gathering energy. The right one shows you how many and what energy needed to proceed to next phase. In this case, first phase require you to put 1 Earth Banner on West and 1 Wood Banner on East.
I put both Banners on the area needed. As long as you put the Banner within the marked 3x3 areas, it will be counted in. Now, lets go back and check the crops again.
Once you put them in correct area, it will be checkmarked like that. Different phase and crops required different tools and formation. Make sure the array formation correct before proceeding. Now, we need Earth and Wood energy to proceed. That mean we need crop with Earth and Wood element to plant.
On my bag, I have few seeds. If you check on the seed information, you will see what element they are on the right side of their name. From the image, we can see that potato are Earth element crops. The color of the seed bags also show you what elements are them. Red for Fire, Yellow for Metal, Blue for Water, Brown for Earth and Green for Wood. I'll use just Potato for the guide.
I plant the Potato seed. You need to water the crop and put Urn beside them to gathering energy. I put 1 Urn and it gather +10 Earth energy.
I put 1 Banner and it gather +30 Earth energy. The energy gain multiplied by 3.
I put 1 Virtues and it gather +90 Earth energy. The energy gain multiplied by 9 (3 x 3).
I put 1 Stone and it gather +270 Earth energy. The energy gain multiplied by 27 (3 x 3 x 3).
I put different element Banner, Virtues and Stone. It gather +270 Earth energy. The energy gain multiplied by 27 (3 x 3 x 3). As you can see from the sample, elements of the tools did not affect different element energy gathering. Each tools(banner, virtues, stones) you placed beside a seed multiplies energy gain by 3.
I put another Urn and it gather +20 Earth energy. The energy gains doubled.
I put yet another Urn and it gather +30 Earth energy. The energy gains tripled. Each urn you placed, increase energy gain by 100% percent.
TLDR
Check rare/precious crops status. Put the tools(banner, virtues, stone) on correct array formation.
Different elements of the tools did not affect energy gathering. Each tools(banner, virtues, stone) placed beside a crops multiply energy gain by 3. Each urn you placed beside a crops increase energy gain by 100% percent.
