[Updated] Vehicle Design Guide

What Is This Colored Table Mess?

Well, I love GearCity but I have one main question that hinders my game progress: which components could I reuse for different types of vehicle.

So for example, when I start at 1900 and build components for a Phaeton and want to build a Sedan later with these exact same components, what are the specification to look out for? And yes, the game shows you stars when you design you components but I can't easily compare it with other vehicles.

When you have the same trouble finding what to look out for when designing components for specific cars these screenshots could help you.

The colomns Performance, Drivability, Luxery, etc match with the recommended stars in the game.

Green is what you want to make sure is in your car

Yellow/greenish is important

Orangeis not so important

Red you could ignore

The columns First, Second and Third describe which specification to really look after.

Please note: I took some freedom in defining First, Second and Third advices. I used them to group/classify cars for component sharing.

Vehicles To Share Components With

The real reason I made this table was that I had difficulty reusing the same component. So I could reuse a set of components (frame, engine, gearbox) for different cars.

So my suggested vehicle classes are as follows:

Cargo

Pickup Truck

Van

Microvan

Compact Van

Minivan

Station Wagon

Shooting Brake

Coupe Utility

Full Sized Sedan

Crossover

Fuel

Subcompact

Microcar

Compact Car

Hatchback

Sedan

Luxery

Luxury Sedan

Landaulet

Town Car

Limousine

Full Sized Sedan (Cargo first)

Performance/Drivability

Supercar

Sports

Roadster (Drivability first)

Fastback

Coupe

Roadster 2+2 (Drivability first)

Coupe 2+2

Luxury Sedan (Luxery/Safety/Cargo first)

Touring (Drivability first)

The odd ones

I really could not fit these in any category, look them up yourself too.

Compact SUV (Dependability/Drivability/Power)

SUV (Power/Safety/Cargo)

Phaeton (Safety/Dependability/Fuel)

So this helped me to understand that I could reuse my Phaeton components for a Sedan as long as:

- I used a bigger frame for the Cargo

- and optimized the engine for Fuel consumption in the Sedan.

Note that these are just classes/categories to use the same components for a 'class' of vehicles. So these are not marques, view Eric's YouTube tutorial for that:
