A White Mage's guide to Healing.

Introduction

Welcome to your first look at the Conjuror/White Mage. In this guide I will talk about things I belive every white mage should know along with some recomended settings.

As this is my guide alot of this is my Opinion and my experiences as White Mage So don't be alarmed if I have an ability recomended that you don't like.

As a side note this guide is a work in progress.

What We Have As White Mages.

Now on to the basics, What do we have to work with. To begin you have Cure at level 2. next you have Medica at level 10 which is your first AOE Heal this aoe is centered arround you. At Level 16 you get an upgrade to your Protect that Increses Magic Defense. After level 18 you get Esuna which is an ability that removes Conditions one at a time. At Level 28 you get a Trait that turns your raise into a battle Rez allowing to to raise targets Mid combat. After the level 30 conjuror quest you get access to Cure II which is your highest potency heal as White Mage. When you hit 34 you get an important ability called Stoneskin which you want on the tank or the whole party. Atfer Level 35 White Mage quest you get Regen which is a Heal over Time effect which can assist you greatly in combat if used correctly. When you hit Level 42 you get Cure 3 which is your second AOE heal you will ever get unlike medica this aoe heal is centered on your current allied target. When you finally Ding 50 you get two abilities Medica II and Benediction, Medica II is a Aoe heal of lower potency of Medica but includes a regen to the whole party while Benediction is an instant cast heal to Full HP which is basically your "oh ♥♥♥♥" button.

Now that we have all the Tools you need lets go over some of the attacks you get. At Level 1 you start with Stone which does single target damage to an ememy. When you strike 4 you get Aero which is an instant cast Damage over time Ability which is great for claiming mobs in fates. After the Level 15 Conjuror Quest you get Fluid Aura which is an instant cast Knock Back and Single Target Damage, only use this to knock a mob in the tanks direction or in a direction away from you if your being attacked. At level 22 you get Stone II which is an improved Stone attack which a higher Potency. After the Level 45 White Mage Quest you Holy, One of the best AOE attacks if used correctly.

Finally we are onto the Utilities those abilties you need to do a better job as healer or whatever you use the WHM as. At Level 6 you have Cleric Stance Which swaps your INT and MND stats and Reducing the potency of your Healing Abilities but Increasing the Damage of your Magic Attacks. At level 26 you get Repose which puts a single Enemy to Sleep for 45 seconds and then 15 seconds if you cast it on the same enemy again. With your Level 30 White Mage quest you get Presence of Mind which speeds up spellcasting speeds this ability is very useful for quickened healing or attack abilities. When you hit Level 38 you get Shroud of Saints which is an Anti Threat and Mana Regen abiltiy. After your Level 40 White Mage quest you get Divine Seal which Increases Healing Potency for a short While.

Our final part of what we have is our Procs which assist us in doing a better job as a healer. The first proc is at Level 32 which is free cure, While Spamming Cure you have a 30% chance to get a free Cure II. After Freecure we have Overcure at Level 44, While Casting Cure II your next Cure III can be cast for Half the Normal amount of MP.

Other traits we have are the Improved Protect which adds magic defence to the physcial defence, and the improved Stoneskin which increases the barrier put on the allied target. We also have Improved Shroud of Saints which increases the refreash potency to 50 generating more MP.

With the addition of Heavensward we have some new skills the first of which is Asylum which is a barrier that allows HP Regen while inside the dome that is placed on the ground. Next we have a new attack Stone III which is the same as Stone II with higher potency. Our next new ability is Assize which is an AOE heal and AOE Damage rolled into one package with a potency of 300 for both heal and damage and having the additional affect of gaining 10% MP back. Now we move on to another bread and butter ability for the White mage Aero III which is an AOE air attack with a potency of 50 and a Damage over time attack as well with a potency of 40. Our last ability we get is Tetragrammaton which is a 700 potency healing Spike that can be used an emergency heal, while not as good as benediction it is still a good one to have due to this 700 potency spike being on a 60 second CD as opposed to Benediction with a 300 second CD.

Cross Skills And The White Mage

Cross Skills are a Essential Part of the Final Fantasy XIV: A Realm Reborn Class System As such lets go over what we have their and how to use them.

Swiftcast:

Swiftcast is your most needed cross skill, This skill can be used to Instantly Cast Raise and possibly prevent a wipe if say your tank is dead. Some parties will kick you out if you don't have this ability.

Surecast:

This is a great skill for when your being hit in pvp only death can stop the spell from casting if you have this up and it is only good for one cast so it is best used for a quick and unstopable Holy.

Eye for an Eye:

this is a great spell to use on the tank that can cause the mob or player that attacks the player with this buff on to do less damage. This ability is great in both PvP and PvE

Ruin:

This is a possible ability but it is pretty much Useless inless your fate farming and trying to conserve mana

Blizzard II:

A cheeper Aoe then holy, it does crap for damage but it is great for tagging mobs arround you.

Virus:

This is a great ability to use on the enemy Physical Atackers and Bards as this ability reduces STR and DEX

Priorities Of A White Mage

First and foremore the Priorities of A white mage are as follows

1. yourself: if your not alive you can not heal keep yourself alive at all costs

2. the tank: The tank's job is to keep you and everyone else out of harms way form the mobs your job is to make sure he or she is alive to do so

3. Everybody Else: aside form the tank you also need to heal the dps when they are in need of a heal just toss a quick regen on the dps and call it good

Healing the DPS

as I stated above A quick regen can take care of most problems with DPS if the tank is doing their job and keeping the mobs off of you and the DPS

Healing the Tank

With the tank Place a Regen on the tank After the tank has aggro managed best thing to do is wait 5 seconds before placing any heal over time affects, During or before the pull it may be a good idea to place a Stoneskin on the tank. Make sure you use your heal procs (Freecure and Overcure) when you can.

Lastly every good healer should help the dps when possible by droping a few bombs in the battle your Cleric stance and Normal Stance must both be mastered as you may be droping an attack from time to time, before you do so make sure to watch the tanks HP the entire time, if it drops below 75% go back to healer mode and get the injured party member back in fighting shape.

What To Avoid

there are more then a hand full of things you shoud avoud doing as a healer or you could cause a wipe, lets list them.

1. AOE heal spam: Each time you heal anybody you generate threat on any and all targets that the person or persons you healed had threat with, with this in mind the biggest offenses on this list is Spamming Medica, Medica II, and Cure III your aoe heals as they hit multiple targets they generate the most threat.

2. Healing in Cleric Stance: Cleric stance is for damage not healing, if you heal with cleirc stance on then your not doing your job as a healer, not only is this stupid it can cause a wipe to a serious extent.

3. Not managing your MP: If you fail to manage your MP you will find yourself useless to a party due to not being able to heal and will cause a wipe, a healer with no MP "CAN NOT HEAL".

Gearing Up

As a Healer you want to focus on a set of core stats but each healer can have a differnt style so in this part I will explain what the stats you want do. You do not need all of these stats I just ran through the various choices in stats that are useful to you as a healer.

Mind: Easily the most important stat to any healer, this stat is one of the 6 core stats (strength, Dexterity,Vitality, Mind, intelligence, Piety) this stat is responcible for increasing your heal magic potency. This stat is most important to healers, the higher your mind stat the more effective your cures are.

Piety: This Stat is another of the 6 core stats, this Stat increases your MP allowing you to cast more spells or use higher level spells more often. This stat is more important to mages in general.

Vitality: The last of the core 6 stats you will need as a healer, this Stat increases your HP allowing you to survive longer or take harder hits. This stat is more important to tanks then it is to healers but a healer with more HP can survive a bad blow more easily.

Critical Hit Rate: This stat affects how often you will do Critical Damage or Critical Heals and is able to allow you to help you in both healer and cleric stances.

Determination: This stat increases both base Healing and Base damage, this stat covers raw capibilities meaning you might crit less but your base damage and heals will go up based on this stat.

Spell Speed: This stat will make it take less time to Cast and is important to mages in that reguard especially when this stat has the ability to mean the difference between a wipe and a clear at times.

you want to focus on some of these stats try to work atleast 3 from this list into your gear and 1 or 2 into your food.

Setting Up Your Character Settings

here comes the part where we screw with the Character settings for the better.

First off Enter your Character Configuration Menu and lets begin with Movement settings.

to begin with you will want to swap to Legacy (Camera based) from Character based. Doing this helps prevent you from running towards what your fleeing from when you target and also allows for easier AOE Evasion.

Next turn off Cutscenes that you already viewed. This helps in not pissing off party members or having them start the boss fight without you therefore locking you out of the boss fight on your second run However 100% of the time they will just start without you even if you want to see the story and ask them nicely to wait for the cutscenes they 100% of the time just leeroy it without you reguardless if your there or not.

Turn off the display of your name unless you target yourself. This solves a minor personal issue, Mainly being you know your characrers name, why do you want to see it all the time.

make a 3 bar brick for your class abilities somewhere on your UI. Doing this makes sure you have all your abilties that you need and plenty of room for expansion.

Bar1: Attack bar, Bar 2: Heal bar, bar 3: Utility Bar. you can swap bar 1 with bar 2 if you want.
