The Battle Of Aeonia

It began with Malenia's southward march. If I had known of the events that were to transpire in that accursed land, I would have tried to warn my lady. But alas, I do not possess the power of foresight. The Starscourge proved to be a formidable foe. It was no surprise that he managed to amass a considerable host. His power alone would have been enough to convince many a warrior to follow him. The battle seemed to wage on for many days from which no victor arose. As the battle progressed I began to see a change in my lady. She seemed to be gaining strength. Just when all hope seemed to fade, something occurred that I could not have foreseen. It was then I realized my lady had not been gaining strength. She had been losing what was left of herself. She transformed into a blossoming Aeonia afflicting everything in her wake. The Starscourge was defeated, but at a cost that was perhaps too great. My lady's affliction, the scarlet rot, was once considered but an old legend. This legend had now terraformed the entire landscape. As I came to terms with what happened it dawned on me that I was one of the only ones left standing. As my lady lay motionless in the rot riddled dirt I decided to lend my aid one last time, no matter the cost.

The Flight From Caelid

Why did I vow to follow her? I don't know. Why do things happen as they do in dreams? All I know is that when she beckoned, I had to follow her. And from that moment when I carried her incapacitated body with me, we traveled together. North, always into the north.

As I carried my lady through the decrepit landscape she had left in her wake it began to dawn on me how long this journey would truly take. It became apparent that the scarlet rot had not spared me either. I noticed my very own body betrayed me as my flesh slowly decayed in front of my eyes. It was at that moment, I realized I could only persevere if I accepted my fate and carried on in spite of it, so I did. Remembering the vow I swore to my lady I regained some semblance of strength. With this strength we braved the newly formed wilds of Caelid until we came across some semblance of unafflicted grass. We had reached Limgrave. These were the lands of Godrick the Golden, Godrick the Coward. It would surely be dangerous to thread these lands so soon after its lord's humiliating defeat at the hands of my lady.

North, Ever North

After having fended off the various patrols scouring the land of Limgrave, we finally stumbled upon the mist shrouded lakes of Liurnia. These lands were under the control of the Carian royals. Since the dissolution of the alliance between the Carian Queen and Radagon's golden order, much of the land seemed to have fallen into decay. As I carried my lady through the perilous wildlands we reached the outskirts of the capital. Since the shattering, the inhabitants of the capital have become a far less hospitable people. I decided it best to stay clear from its gold adorned walls. There is a secret passage known by few which leads to the grand lift. It is commonly referred to as the forbidden lands. I was relieved to see the familiar path we are so close to the Haligtree now. As we reached the lift I presented the medallion which would grant us access to the consecrated snowfield. This snowfield is the final trial that separated us from home. As I carried my lady through the raging blizzard I swore I could hear a howling which originated from something other than the weather. We braved the chilling winds as they were biting at my frozen decaying flesh. It was in the midst of the raging storm of snow and ice that I found my body failing me as I collapsed. I thought that I had failed my sacred duty to my lady and I sure would have if not for the aid of the inhabitants of the lithurgical town of Ordina. As I woke up I saw the branches of the Haligtree reach out from over the edge of the town. I had made it home, my sacred duty was fulfilled.
