PREQUEL - CARRION

The story of how CARRION grew in the beginning of times until when the game takes place.

Prologue

This story takes place in one universe out of the many existing possibilities. Heavy rains had already been pouring on the planet and Earth was cooling down. Some arthropods were already moving at the bottom of this young huge mass of water.

Meteorites'showers were frequent, and if any kind of life form was in these ones, it surely died upon impacting the surface. But one very simple being survived, a wriggling blood red tiny worm that crawled out of this broken metallic and rocky meteorite.

Once out in the water this creature started to feed off other life forms, it used mainly arthropods as a host in order to eat the necessary and avoid predators. Soon learnt to jump from host to host leaving some of it behind in the previous host, that died briefly afterwards because it was consumed by the offspring, a still mass of wriggling nerves connected neurologically to the worm and covered by red slime. This little red alien ventured through many environments and learnt the hard way that fire would burn its body and neurological system - luckily it had made some offspring from where it could spawn back itself, or themselves worms, as these offspring were thriving absorbing the nutrients in the water and if no predator was around they kept very slowly growing. After years and years - millions of years actually, many offspring had been created and what once had been one red tiny worm - now was a bigger mass made of thousands and thousands of worms. It could grab bigger beings than itself and devour them piece by piece, if another creature neurons were ingested, the mass of worms managed to retrieve their memories. The creature was now a mass of meat and bones - carcasses and carrion, many eyes and many mouths, many huge worms that seemed tentacles. This mass of dead flesh had a very complex and developed neurological system that communicated among themselves through low frequency waves. It was the most intelligent creature on Earth.

One day though, after a big bang, the sky shrouded in black, temperatures raised and oceans began to boil. The creature lost much flesh and was reduced to a smaller self, most of its offspring was incinerated and in a moment decided to trap themselves in muddy pools under water. It was their end, trapped under tons and tons of molten lava between mud, dirt and rocks.

Era Of Men

The Era of men arrived and so did their curiosity and hunger for discoveries. Men proliferated and evolved, destroyed many environments they were living in and killed many of their kin, under various futile reasons - nevertheless they continued to uncover the world, invent things and advance in medicine. They have always been afraid of what they could not understand and if they could fight it with either knowledge or arms, they would.

While they were exploring the world, men were also discovering many pools rich in nutrients deep underground, these were named amniotic fluid pools. These pools - at first discovered by chance when looking for petroleum underground - caught the attention of many pharmaceutical companies, as such fluid allowed these companies to find a cure to most uncurable genetic and whatnot diseases, like Parkinson, Alzheimer, etc... and even allowed them to heal some cases of paralysis.

Many decades passed by before one pharmaceutical company took over the whole market, helped by multiple governments. This company that went by the name of Genetic Relics Corporation (G.R.C.) started digging in various parts of the known world, spent billions in research and earned thrillions back at the same time. G.R.C. were ahead in genetic modification, lenghtening the life span of the elitarian class and modifying some people body responses. Some wars were won and lost due to genetic researches. Some people neurological system could be implanted in machines.

One faithful day, deep down below the ground in a pool, a huge red-ish embryo was found by one of the colossal digging machines owned by the pharmaceutical corporation. It was transparent and millions of little worms where moving and wriggling in its interior, it was as big as ten humans and all around there were many colossal amorphous fossils scattered. The various C.E.O.s of G.R.C. were thrilled and scared at the same time. They decided to build a new high-tech, secure, huge facility deep underground with that embryo at its center.

The embryo was caged and Genetic Relics Corp. attempted to contact it using at first small critters like earth worms and then bigger ones like jumbo rats, the results were the same as the embryo absorbed all critters with some small tentacles which took them inside. Many of these experiments went on and on during months; the embryo absorbed different animals and grew in mass and size.

One day in the cage room, even though rules and discipline in G.R.C. were tight, a technician was grabbed and absorbed by a couple of gigantic worms in the embryo. Some say that the poor fellow was sent in the cage to check the metallic platform that was studying the partially immersed embryo in the pool and that he got too close... an unnecessary mistake - some others say that G.R.C. directive table wanted that to happen, they knew the embryo was but a complex system of nerves and they were curious about what could happen if an intelligent life form were absorbed... they handpicked the clumsiest worker.

Next the camaras recorded the embryo blowing in thousands of small and big red worms. Later the

same worms attempted multiple times to form a human body out of them, they tried during days and days gathering into a rough human shape just to explode and split again in thousands of worms. Finally they managed to get a full human shape that looked like the poor technician and could talk plain English... only thing was that it wasn't the technician.

About Powerful Men And A Shapeless Alien

The directive table of the Genetic Relics Corporation kept the weird accident a secret from the world like most of that facility already was. Only the visible part above ground was known to the public and the official job inside the building was to test on rats the latest finds from the amniotic fluid. Many years passed and the board of directors started referring to that mass of worms as Mr Wurm. G.R.C. were too scared to proceed with further research - they strengthen the military personnel and created reinforced shifts of scientists, monitors and their backups.

Mr Wurm - or the many worms making it - only had the thoughts and memories of the unfortunate technician to keep them company and give them a glimpse of human society and what it looked like outside. Nobody was to talk to or empathize with Mr Wurm, under no circumstance, that was a strict order punishable by military court. Time flew by and rules got softer as well as the different personnel manning the cage outside, people aged, Mr Wurm did not. One day a daring and ambitious scientist started talking to the alien form inside.

The new face was a genetist with an advanced background in programming, a young guy who boasted that he wasn't scared of it and that at the right time would free Mr Wurm, if he considered it safe enough. In fact he already was pressuring the directive board about the matter. People at the directive board of the corporation were all new, too. Workers and directors alike were curious on how the technician's body was still the same as decades ago. Soon Mr Wurm was freed and signed an agreement with the Corporation saying that they - worms - would cooperate with the genetic advancement of the human race - G.R.C. - and they would provide it with meat - mainly dead humans as it requested... naturally all of this under strict surveillance.

A dead brain only gave these worms only a part of memories, memories reflecting only day to day actions. Nevertheless Mr Wurm learnt much about people: love, hate, vengeance, forgiveness, creativity, etc... With time, this neurologically ever evolving creature started to understand the world and Genetic Relics Corporation intentions - the huge genetic strides were used to help a few elites and to win wars or give coup d'etats, all in order to grow in power. The years that followed Mr Wurm could walk the streets and greet various people, important and humble, all kinds. The worms knew it was a matter of time before G.R.C. considered Mr Wurm a menace, so it started oozing tiny wriggling creatures everywhere around the globe. These offspring thrived in some moist environment, while perished in others way hotter. The wriggling worms in the technician wanted to play it safe.

The big Corporation was made aware by high-tech camaras that something was oozing out of the technician body, they were unsure of what - instead of taking containment measures, they decided to study the creature, coming to a common understand that those worms were highly intelligent and could communicate with each other through some kind of electronic wave. Corporation scientists understood also that the creature was able to absorb and add the eaten brain to their nervous system. Much time flowed by and this cold war went on and on. Some people that should have died of old age were alive and stronger than ever thanks to the genetic advancement.

One day, Mr Wurm was at a new military facility where Genetic Relics were supposed to take some other samples from them worms - as soon as it entered one of the rooms Mr Wurm ceased to hear the never ending buzz coming from their worm hives scattered around the globe. Something was wrong. Taken by surprise, GRC personnel managed to shut Mr Wurm in a sealed and safe room deep underground, born in mid-air by huge chains and isolated from the exterior. There was one window on the ceiling from where people could check inside, but it was not use trying to get out. The former technician could see people out of the cage screaming in fear, in its rage Mr Wurm exploded in thousands of worms and realized it could try to ooze out hammering the sealed minuscule crevices by the only upper glass. The caged worms were sure they could do it... in a long time.

Outside of the newly made prison, all offspring were cut loose from the main neurological contact and although scientists foresaw a quick death of what they thought small hives, a bigger hive took control and spawned another mass of worms that soon became a gigantic mass of meat driven by rage to destroy G.R.C. - it was a new intelligence, it could be considered the closest kin to the thing that was now imprisoned. The powerful corporation, in a fit of desperation, took the secured room and launched it into space towards a black hole, in the last hope of annihilating the newly spawned gigantic carrion made of worms.

So here the original mass of carrion and worms is traveling into a black hole.

Another Different And Yet Similar Universe

It was once again an amorphous creature and it was going through that black hole. All their interconnected neurological system was on alert. Only void and blurs around, and a cold they only felt billions of years ago when traveling space as a tiny worm. At a certain moment all the worms pushed through a blur and a sudden strenght pulled them out to the light... they found themselves in a crammed space with a man sat by some controls. The amorphous mass of worms was weak and cold, they realized they were very hungry.

The poor pilot gave the thousands worms some energy, enough for them to wriggle out that small space where they found out a very hot sun was scorching the earth, they were so weak that went back in. They were in a blue helicopter saying 859 on the paint and in the cockpit the creature could read the word Relith. Soon enough the amorphous alien saw its skin was coal black, thicker and heavier, how long has it been traveling space and time in that black hole? Is it on Earth? Is it the same time of when it ended up in the void? Is it the same Earth or another one shaped by different actions?

The memory of pain and fear of the pilot soon disappeared and the creature searched among the devoured pilot's memories for some clues. Although the time was still a mistery, these now black worms were on a different Earth in what could be another dimension. The poor pilot didn't know anything specific, an ordinary man working for the biggest and most powerful corporation on the planet, Relith. In this mission he had to drop a scouting team who had to retrive some samples in an amniotic fluid pool deep underground in an old abandoned facility... was that the same amniotic pool from its Earth? Suddenly the black amorphous thing realized Relith was now on a wormhunt as the helicopter had camaras and the chip legally implanted in the pilot stopped working and activated an alarm somewhere on the globe.

Some time later arrived a second helicopter heavily manned by androids, at least they looked the part, and after some fire they easily contained in a safe the already very weak black carrion. The charred and scarred mass of worms was taken away in a blinded unit to another reinforced glass unit connected to the ground by various electric cables. The creature was thinking the universe was different, but men were still the same...

After what seemed various weeks and many electric discharges - for study purposes, the worms changed some of the texture of their gross rotten meat in something similar to acid and started swirling in the tube, which made the reinforced glass brittle. Just during the thousandth discharge the amorphous hardened alien broke out of its cage and dug its way out in the hard crystal rock. Behind an extra layer of glass, scientists and military personnel did nothing, they had some basic knowledge that thing could possess them - that was what the black carrion sensed. The wriggling mass of meat and bones crawled through small vents, dug hard rock and used all senses to find small pipes, always going up and avoiding leaving traces and bigger spaces. When the last dirt was dug, it finally breathed the moisty and cold air the desert, far far away it could see flickering lights of some big city. Maybe it could try living a peaceful and interesting existence in there.

In that exact very moment, its neurological system made all its worms aware there was another entity similar to theirs somewhere underground from where they fled. In this world there might be another mass of worms like them.

Out In The Open World Under The Blue Sky - A Rewind On The Current Universe Of Carrion

It's been millions of years since this red mass of amorphous flesh had not eaten anything at all, not even a small two legged scaled creature. That was before the Earth started boiling after a massive earthquake, in order to survive the pouring molten rocks the gigantic mass of meat and bones had to sacrifice great part of its body and trap themselves left worms behind many layers of mud, sediments and water. After years and years and years in that rocked cage in stasis - first thing its worms were hearing was like something huge was digging their way to that rocky prison, hours passed by and soon it had many moving and flickering lights around its slimey egg-ish shell, many unknown beings were surrounding them worms and suddenly one being's extremity touched its shell. All the remaining worms woke up from their stasis and absorbed a limb, a body, a head. They devoured every single piece of juicy meat in an explosion that became a nightmare for the people around, the creature absorbed energy from lighting devices and in a frenzy of senses devoured every life form around - a couple of half mechanic bodies were laying lifeless on the ground and almost instinctively a single bigger worm move out the amorphous creature and settled in the android brain. All of their neurological system was extatic about the human life form and their creativity and memories and emotions, it was incredible - if they wanted to see the blue sky again, the amorphous sack of flesh had to move upwards and they had to be quick, humans intentions were to leave them worms trapped and sealed like they had been so far.

On Relith's part, they had given very clear orders, digging down below and around the world in order to discover more amniotic fluid pool for research purposes to better the health and quality of life of all people around the world. They were using they same personnel for digging and using these titanic machines... it was a well paid, but boring job. In this last digging site they found a couple of cyclopean skeletons, but nothing else. The digger who discovered a big amniotic pool with a strange huge embryo-like thing was finally happy something different was in front of him - out of the blue for sheer curiosity, he decided to touch it - then a supernatural force brought him in and his mind fused with many unknown others, his heartbeat ceased pulsing. Meantime the whole digging site started shutting down, from that very lower level to the upper ones, but that thing made out of tentacles looked unstoppable, it had a strong sheer will of its own. Many armed people were sent down below to control that monstrous power and all lost their lives, but in the end they managed to put it down in some kind of stasis, the monster had climbed up many levels. Now the upper levels are well sealed off and nobody can't get in nor out.

Many years passed and the creature - trapped, weak and still vulnerable - was growing curious of the human mind and their society, it was eagerly awaiting their return as their multiple intelligence knew that humans would have a desire to get in touch with them in maybe a forceful way. After all they were using the pools them worms had created as a byproduct.

After much time, Relith sent a team of scouts ahead in that derelict facility to retrieve some biosamples from what camaras (before they stopped working) showed like a round-ish still blob in an amniotic pool. If that thing created a pool like that, Relith Corporation could have the means to recreate the miracolous fluid. They had to grab just a sample and give it to the defence personnel that was behind them in incognito. Some humans life span already got better and even some of their cognitive abilities. As soon as the team of scouts reached the old digging site, the team realized that in this place were discovered various skeletons and the earth was oozing amniotic fluid - only the directive board knew of this, and not many employees had a high level of clearance in Relith. Some jobs were special and had a know-on-the-go way of being tasked. As soon as the team of three and the recording drone reached the level where they had to pick some samples, they felt the embryo in front of them was eager of getting to know them, so one team member used hands instead of a special device to take the sample. The camara in the drone recorded the man killing his two assistants and smashing the drone to pieces. The man was no more and Relith gave orders to the defence team to surround the ex-man, before containing the creature. Relith were sure where the ex-man would have resurfaced. Meantime Relith had another problem at the helicopter landing site, a black amorphous being appeared from inside the helicopter of the team of scouts. Fortunately the defensive team was already there and they contained it within a special blinded container. But they were puzzled, they weren't expecting something like that in the open.

The ex-man was happily walking upwards towards its freedom, all the worms were eager to reach the surface. The thing knew that they killed three defenseless people, but in its weakness they couldn't risk to lose a chance to get out, knowing what humans were capable of. They saw the starry sky and amid of many unexpected armed humans, they tried to climb back up in the helicopter - suddenly more than a gust of bullets hit the worms scattering its amorphous body all around the ground. Taken by surprise and still weak, they couldn't do anything and witnessed a very coordinated mass of humans gather the various wriggling parts of its body and put them in some kind of jars. The various worms were taken to a high security facility for future studies.

Relith Corporation were very complacent in having caught two similar amorphous beings, one red and one black - after some weeks of studies on these creatures, Relith knowledge of the genetic map was over the stars, these beings' neurological system may give the human race a way to brain immortality, and they were already fully able to implant a biologic mind in a mechanical suit. From time to time these beings in jars would move so violently that would scare the scientists gathering information around them. But unless there had been a crack in glass no-one had to get near the things: those were the orders. Nothing can keep for a long time a millennial being, and men are well known for their greediness, so Relith did their best to ignore what some scientist told them: these creatures have limitless capacities and cannot be contained, and a dialogue must be created. They broke out. The first accident happened in the Anomalous Materials Vault - where what was unreadable and nearly impossible was kept, a high security containment unit exploded shortly after a black mass of worms inside started to swirl in it for hours, afterwards the alien managed to dig its way out into sewers and airvents, from the extra glass layer scientists saw many worms melted on dark grey talons that cut rock like butter. The second accident happened to a second containment unit located in the BSL-4 Research Ward, the many continuous and fast blows - that the creature inside was dealing - broke the reinforced glass. A smaller red amorphous being was on the loose in the pipes of the facility and the being was retrieving its body parts scattered in other compartments. Relith Corporation lost both creatures and most of a high security facility in less than a week...

SEQUEL - CARRION

From when the CARRION ''story'' takes place to the events that followed.

Freedom In A World Of Men

Upon wondering the flickering lights of the far away city, the black carrion pondered whether exploring this new world or going to the human society. The thoughts of being in war against Relith wasn't an alluring idea, those ancients worms had already been scarred by men once before - with this in mind the creature decided to wander off in the desert, moving and hunting at night and staying put under the sand during day. They blackened worms knew a similar entity to theirs was somewhere in that world as they could detect some faint electric waves in the air from time to time.

They kept exploring this world crawling from deserts to jungles to grassy plains, avoiding civilization and feeding on critters and animals - after a long time, they came face to face with three guys of some southern mafia beating a poor woman to death who didn't generate any more profits, she had a son and that was her life. The son was watching hidden in a closet, in the very closet there was a crevice giving enough space for the creature to have crawled in. As soon as the poor child screamed, because something squishy was around his foot, the three armed men found the little child... and something else that in a whipping move minced their meat and the remaining tentacles absorbed to their body center all that remained. When the small child cried over her mother's body, all of the black wormy mass remembered their first feeding on a man, remembered the happy memories and naive thoughts of a clumsy technician. The amorphous mass took form once again and looked like the once Mr Wurm. The child laid there watching speechless the transformation from black amorphous mass to a middle aged, brown man with short curly hair. Mr Wurm took the child hand and took him with them, they said their name was Wurm, and that they would call him Stil.

The small child grew to be a boy, moving from wilderness to towns, learning by stealing books from libraries, and food was always on the plate, as when Wurm went to hunt, Stil knew the sharp and squishy tentacles going out of Wurm skin were not match to anything. They became friends and traveled the world together, from the two Acameri's territories to the olden Uroepe to the eastern territories of Iasa. Stil kept the secret of their protector and they grew fond of each other. Wurm sent him to a famous genetic school in the heart of the Irfaca's land, Stil was curious and was a righteous young man who wanted to correct the many injustices in the world. His studies were paid by Wurm, they devoured and robbed many rich and powerful middle-directors of Relith. Once at the genetic school, Wurm and Stil waved each other goodbye - they would come to visit, nevertheless ancient worms and the young boy had different paths and the young boy needed to live in the society to which he belonged.

Relith Corporations and their board directors, based in the northern Acameri, knew something was moving, gathering information and staying as low as possible. They had a hunch it could be the missing amorphous being, escaped year and years ago. Nothing could be done. All the attacks were accomplished randomly around the world... At least they knew the position of one creature.

The red carrion, moving with unbelievable speed that huge and amorphous mass of bloody worms, went straight to the city from where they resurfaced. As soon as they reached the city, after having eaten casual passerby's the night after, they decided to change skin. On the city screen there was the picture of the man them worm possessed when they broke out. They decided to take the look of the last person who fell under their mouths: a young short girl with dark long straight hair. The mass of red worms, meat and bones was now Wang, a student - and thanks to the memories of these urban victims and a few belongings, the new Wang was now heading to another northern city in the Acamerian territory on a long distance bus. This Wang had a loving family back there and looked forward to graduate as a doctor, some of this notions made the red carrion aware of the unity, fondness and good that there was in the human society - until then, the mass of worms almost only experienced violence, strict rules and the do-anything-to-get-what-you-want attitude within the Relith yerarchy.

In their new and cold big city, the mass of worms tried to look for a normal life as Wang, they worked at a center for homeless people in the suburbs and lived in an abandoned warehouse by the docks, their job was preparing food and beds, all was donated by the wealthiest - some of them were Relith big shots trying to look good for the public. The red carrion could not understand how the human society split themselves in so many classes, where some people believed to be better than others. Sure thing in some countries there were kings and in others republics, nevertheless republics were more oligarchies, were people had the feeling of choosing. In their neurological system, they knew that those who were serving millions of other ones, should not be after power, but be humble... it was a lost cause, humans went after what shined more the soon the better. Such a good brain and barely used. Ignorance was a bliss and they had to trust in something that made them feel better, at least have a feeling of control. The mass of worms in that small body continued feeding on people - but they started to be picky, they slaughtered only men that weren't complying with their idea of humans-must-help-each-other-and-not-lying-to-themselves. With the passing years the red worms befriended the many homeless people living in the old building, always caring for them, chit-chatting and having long dialogues - the red carrion wanted to know more from these living creatures, feeding on them did not satiate their curiosity. The carrion never revealed their identity to anyone, used parts of former Wang story to stay hidden and kept living in the now refurnished warehouse - just in case someone knocked by, it was weird enough Wang didn't age, even though she could be one of those who tested experimental drugs from Relith. In the meantime, the mass of meat and bones was always growing and to avoid raising any suspicion, Wang deposited their mass of worm infested meats in crevices walking for miles in the city in the sewers below - ever careful, in case some city worker had to be down there. With many other years passing by, the docks sea waters started to change color to a yellow-ish fluid that caught the attention of the local television. Those big docks were checked thoroughly by the local police at first and Relith personnel shortly followed... men did so much to save their different nations traditions and fake governments, and then such a big and relentless corporation raised from nothing thanks to their greed and their capability to turn away from things that made them feel uncomfortable. It was almost well deserved. Wang had to move away from the docks, it was too much a risk, so decided to go living among the homeless in the city suburb charity building were them worms worked in the last decades. They became more careful, but from time to time a nosy homeless would follow them in manholes. All of them were added to create more hives even deeper below the city. One day Wang were caught red-handed by two drunkards who went through some useless war, when the short girl began oozing their red-ish mass to absorb a recently killed scammer-realtor. Both of them watched the scene with no fear, but waiting their turn to be killed, the red carrion spared their life, and saying thank you to an untold vote of silence - them worms liked these two humans and at the same time was growing bored of being alone. Maybe they would turn them over to the police... or to Relith for some money - maybe they could really be trustworthy, these two were always complaining that the more you steal, the more you look respectable in this city. One wanted money.

Back To Another Beginning

Relith Corporation's managers were living in dangerous years, out in the world there was a being that was taking them down one by one, and they had no idea of the hitting patterns of this merciless rogue... but looked like the more key persons from Relith disappeared, the more information this rogue had on the corporation. From now on Relith decided to work on a stricter need-to-know rule and only one director had to know everything in order to plan everyone's movement ahead. The board voted unanimously that person had to be Elam Li, a man devoted entirely to Relith Corporation and to their advances in genetic modifications. He was a narcisistic very old man, a genetist of dubious ethics and a merciless businessman, who experimented on himself the amniotic fluid siero when it was discovered in the beginning. After some years, the random disappearing of the personnel from Relith lowered slowly. And beyond that, they received a call from the local police of Gocachi city in the northern Acameri: a homeless drunkard said to have witnessed a murdering alien and insisted he deserved some kind of reward, because he could prove aliens were hiding in the city. It seemed legit, a wealthy realtor was also missing - matching the drunkard description. It had to be one of the amorphous beings - the drunkard unfortunately died of a common heart attack shortly after, it was winter and a very common cause of death. The local police were informed that Relith couldn't do anything about missing people - the corporation main tactic was to keep a very very low profile.

In the last century, after they found this wriggling alien, Relith made huge and further advancements in genetics and nano robotics thanks to the various hives they harvested in the high security facility from where the two amorphous creatures broke out. The hive were bloody red, because of the thousands worms that dwelt in, by removing the worms and putting them in another living animal or man, the worms would consume the poor creature shortly after and form another hive - but if they separated the writhing red being in a strong blinded safe, the worm neurological system would shut down and the worm body could be used to improve and boost the body and mind of the person in who they implanted the worm in... it was experimental, and there had been some setbacks shortly and effectively contained.

It took a year for Relith to plan the capture of the red amorphous creature, they knew their target: a short girl with black hair who went missing decades ago in the city nearby a secret facility where Relith suffered big losses. The creature was living in a charity building for homeless and well known to the people there as Wang. In the capture, Relith used androids with worms implanted in their human brains - small worms were seething from under their eyelids and at the bottom of their mechanical mouths more worms could be seen wiggling - they were trustworthy soldiers of the corporation, new stable experimental personnel. Also, every soldier was armed with heavy guns and strong sedatives. In a surprise attack on the building for homeless people they managed to capture with sleeping weapons the infuriated amorphous carrion, that managed to take control of one boosted android and split in pieces various other mechs. A maddened homeless attacked the soldiers and died trying to save what he might have believed a young girl. Eventually the creature was trapped and kept sedated constantly in a closed reinforced glass safe connected to tubes of different size. They moved the amorphous being to the same facility where the amorphous blob was caged in the beginning... just a longer way down, well below where the previous high security underground building was. It was the best place to improve security and to study the hives at the same time as the creatures ran away from it. The other part had been mainly abandoned.

The red mass of worms and meat was sedated and left inactive in a glassen strongbox, that very moment a similar creature noticed that somewhere in a northern part of Acameri something happened to the carrion that belonged to this world. The black and hardened mass of meat and worms decided to travel north in order to find out what happened, they needed to be quick if they wanted to find some clues. They sensed a big distress electric wave and later on nothing, not even the faintest of waves. The national television was broadcasting that a building was destroyed due to sophisticated bombs used in a shootout between mobs. It happened in Gocachi, and the black carrion wanted to find out more. Wurm arrived in Gocachi the day after Relith captured the red carrion, and didn't even need to go to the scene - instead the darker worms ventured deep down below the city and the sewers where they found some red hives thriving with slow moving small worms. Wurm was no more and appeared a hardened amorphous mass of thick black worms with their last meal leftovers among them. After thinking on what could happen if they made contact with their other-world selves - they decided to fuse with the biggest red hive they found deep below the sewers. At the same time the small red amorphous being in Relith's hands stopped wriggling and dropped dead-like. In that moment the two world same consciousnesses melted together, with their sharing memories and thoughts and experiences, they became one - it was a gigantic amorphous being, red and black, with humans and critters leftovers alike showing from its writhing worms of many sizes and textures. The whole corridor of the sewer was crammed with them and all animals (mostly rats) were absorbed in their expansion. The carrion made up their minds that they had to get rid of Relith, otherwise this corporation could destroy them like Genetic Relics Corporation did in another space and time of events.

Relith Corporation knew something went terribly awry when the red carrion dropped dead in their reinforced glass box. The director in charge informed the board and Elam Li was demoted - someone had to be blamed. The former CEO was sent to a very cold region in the south pole, only water and ice, given his excellent capabilities as a genetic researcher, he could continue there the Relith work on further modifications of the amniotic fluid and some samples of the amorphous creature ...they could even apply such modifications to the human DNA and some people DNA and RNA strains could no more being considered human.

The Chain Of Events That Followed

After the neurological union and the two beings became one, the mass of red and black worms moved away from Gocachi city, they moved up north to other big cities like Rontoto and south again. In every big city the slithering creature kept growing and nesting, creating more and more hives in the sewers or deeper below. They fed on rats, snakes, pidgeons, various insects and more-often-than-not men - humans were keeping the amorphous creature up-to-date with the human society. Humans had a feeling something cyclopic and relentless was lurking beneath their feet and so far the main human meals had been from rich and powerful people, these people knew the most, most of them had an excelent cultural level while others pulled the strings on many things in that society. A society based on traditions, self-respect and progress of the community with the environment. Of course these were not the ethics of those who pulled the strings and should have served and not taken advantage.

Relith became like a phantom corporation, the creature could not get any more information on how to get to their board directors and their many employees knew nothing about it, they only received a handsome paycheck for basic tasks. From time to time Relith managed to find, get samples and exterminate some hive, but it wasn't really a danger for that great being. In the meantime, their young friend Stil, who was studying genetics, was halfway through his studies and was glad to see the creature who managed to communicate with him using the familiar Wurm body - clear enough that before the meeting the writhing being left their mass in a huge cave they created hundreds of meters below the school in Irfaca. The creature skills - some still untested - had improved a lot as their intelligence did.

In the following years, thanks to the dead samples they got in Gocachi, Relith did incredible steps in medicine and people around the world were in awe that nearly all illnesses had now a cure and people's life span was almost doubled. All thanks to Relith, it was a privilege to work for them. Also, Relith were giving a lot of money to some just causes, preserving the environment, helping those in need, sending food and medicine to refugees, etc... Some believed that was but a cover, some people find a conspiracy theory even for their sisters and brothers.

Elam Li's genetic achievements were so great that Relith managed to get the monopoly of all weapons'market. Wars were always waging on the globe, when one finished, another one started, it was a matter of letting leaders do their jobs, using the frustration of one's people by blaming someone else's people... and of course the pretense of reaching a useless dialogue - and of course the problems were created by the leaders themselves - but people didn't need to hear that. Relith had been selling different type of sieros able to modify drastically the human DNA strains, some could now communicate to each other with electric waves, others could squeeze their body to a pulp a pass in tight pipes, others developed a lucid skin stronger than most alloys, etc... All those who injected such sieros were able to take over entire battles, and some of these former men developed side effects like wriggling worms in their throats, black slimy spines on their vertebraes, extra articulations on their four limbs marked by a pulsating red color, etc...

Elam Li continued his job and focused on improving his mind and body, never forgetting about his personal human image. Relith Corporation board directors were happy to have him - much power, influence and money was made and now they even controlled most mafias. The world belonged to them more than ever. They just could not find that elusive amorphous being.

During those peaceful years of travels and discoveries and marvels built by men, the amorphous being decided to take a different approach against Relith. They stayed in the human form as Wurm, created a fake background on their life thanks to the human corruption and some mob not yet working for Relith, and soon they were contracted by General Welders - G.W. - a subcontractor for Relith as a specialist in alloy welding. As a welder specialist, Wurm traveled the the continents and occasionally had the opportunity of working in some Relith facilities, most of them were relatively honest pharmaceutical factories, instead a few were research wards as big as small villages - unfortunately Wurm only had a very basic authorization level, nevertheless in each building the amorphous being went they left small and unable-to-thrive hives in tiny crevices, and so every 30-ish kilometers - as that was the aproximate distance they were able to respawn their consciousness. Their global neurological net had become impressive and made of a staggering high number of hives spread globally. Their powers were strong enough to take over Relith, but not-yet-that-good to understand how some humans got some of their DNA changed so drastically - as Wurm witnessed in some poor countries. Wurm fed on these worm-men, but didn't get the information needed, only that the country's leaders deserved to be part of their mass of meat and bones. So Wurm continued their quest to understand how humnns managed to change so drastically their DNA thanks to their wormy pieces. Until they visited an underwater facility in middle of the Capcifi Ocean to the south. It was a mastodontic building that used geothermal power from the rifts at the bottom of the ocean, it was used as a storage center for many highly infectious substances, much amniotic fluid replica, some mechanical lifeless bodies, some strange guns. Something like ten huge tubes were coming out the boarding docks and pier at the sea level and went up in the sky for another 30 meters. They were the only in-and-out-take for air periodically changed - close to the pier an elevator of 30-ish square meters was the only way up and down. Video-camaras were everywhere. Wurm had been assigned for six months to work on occasional repairs the structure needed and many refused, given the dangers and high mortality rate on the job. After a month Wurm knew where all camaras where, they started oozing worms from the bathrooms and moved all the way around the facility. Used the same worms to slither in the workers' brain while asleep, and before the third month started wurm had the information of where most of the dangerous and experimental sieros and fluids were coming from - someplace in the south pole. The following months passed and Wurm had six months of annual leave given by the General Welders. It had been years since their last visit to Stil, and using their true form the mass of worms used all the nested hives to get to their Stil in an whiff. Stil was now a middle aged man, with family and working on his own as doctor in Irfaca, in the Coast of Bones by the Altactin Ocean. He was taking care of the refugees running to that country for some safety - a long lasting guerrilla with strange men was waging in the region nearby. After a short meeting with his family using Wurm form, the cyclopean entity of thousands of writhing worms and meat and bones and organs moved to the ocean, submerged and moved all the way to the south pole from the very bottom of the sea, devouring most fish, arthropods, and some other huge creature they hadn't known 'till then. Once at the south pole, the amorphous being rigged the bottom of the shallow sea with hives, and so on until they found a dome, where they nested more hives, but in the ice. The attack to take down Relith was about to start.

What Is Dead May Never Die

During the various years after his demotion at the dome, Elam Li started to take control of the facility personnel, modifying the different rooms as he pleased and improving his DNA strains - Relith paid for all as long as he gave the results they wanted - and he only gave them a small part of his research. While the years passed all personnel, human, former human and android had a tiny worm-replica in their minds and linked to his own neurological system, he could control them all without Relith and the exterior world even realized it - in a radius of five kilometers. Elam Li used the human personnel for all the exterior exchanges, the androids for the research in the highly infectious research wards - the former humans were mainly used for defense purposes and new experimental drug tests - just before Elam Li decided what to inject on himself, what to further study, and what to send to Relith directive board and up for sale. He was obsessed with the dead mass of worms and their neurological systems, he prepared for an attack on their behalf. Later that year, when the exterior air was even colder, the dome got the main entrance full blown out, the two foldable big gates were grabbed, pulled and blown to pieces by thousand of tentacles twisted in red and black. The igloo-like shape of the dome was still intact, the entity had yet to traverse its passage tunnel to be in. The three empowered human with wriggling tubifex worms in their eye sockets foresaw a strong electric signal behind the last section behind the gates to enter the dome and Elam Li warriors were there waiting for battle in the mid-section of the circular building - a huge room that worked very well as an armored entrance hall. Many loud noises, thuds and bulging metal from the dome gates, scared the little army behind, some didn't even look human anymore - Elam Li told them to stick to the plan as their defensive system was flawless. The creatures believed him - or, better said, were forced to believe what he said. In a heartbeat the entire hall was submerged by a million black and red, twisting, writhing tentacles and in their midst an amorphous immense being that was dragging various pieces of meat and bone from many creatures, human and not - there also was some piece of metal attached to it, without a doubt belonging to some cyborg. Once in the middle of the hall, the hundreds of turrets started shooting a mixture of acid and sedative to the monster, the special non human army were only buying some time and skimming the creature froth, soon they were annihilated and then Elam Li started eating their dead bodies and tranformed himself into a floating red raw meat and white exposed bone being. Still the monster launched a hundreds cutting tentacles against him, but he kept evolving assuming various forms, like hundreds of worms, to hundreds of human bodies made of writhing tentacles from which he could suck from the monster their life force, a mixture of blood and amniotic fluid. His plan was working, some humans and androids were behind blinded safes, the hall camaras were destroyed, so nobody needed to know how he defeated the monster - a made up story would do. The worms attacks were weaker and weaker, they lost much biomass and their color was turning a decaying grey - Elam Li started sharing the monster own memories and saw a myriad of opportunities to become a world leader, but the amorphous creature was resisting, although it was only a matter of time he could subjugate the alien entity.

The amorphous creature lost much strenght, their flesh was decaying and their vision was now blurry - Elam Li did manage to twist their genetic strains and use them against themselves worms. They understood that this once-a-man was about to take everything from them. In their last centuries they learnt many negative human emotions like selecting some unworthy people, but also came to understand the worth of helping each other, and they couldn't let Stil or the homeless down, not even the technician or the curious digger. Meantime, the weaker they got the stronger the hundreds of hives in the south pole became and one nest called upon the help of another further away and so on. They could not be tricked again like Genetic Relics Corporation succeded - did they? - in another world. All the biomass in the southern emisphere was moving at incredible speed towards that epicentre. While careful not causing much damage, once near the dome, these hives wrok havoc at the dome, creating thousands of breaches and giving unmeasurable power to the dying amorphous being. Out of sheer rage the grey being began wrapping in tentacles and immobilizing all of the monstrous Elam Li, with their many mouths and talons and teeth started devouring him, if some piece of this ex human attempted to flee in shrieking fear, more hives ate such pieces.

The dome was no more, the white and grey amorphous creature knew ALL of Relith Corporation, thanks to Elam Li.

All Cycles, Of Ends And Beginnings

After the dome, the amorphous creature went to visit again Stil and gave him many useful tips on how to get better at healing people and improve their quality of life. Their trip to the dome was very productive. The months that followed, witnessed the sudden and brutal death of thousands of people around the globe, and many shocking news came to surface. Many leaders of many countries perished, too. Different people tried to fit in the steps to be good leaders, some of them died of eerie deaths, while others became true servants for their country. Relith Co. fell, many lost their jobs and had to adapt to a more humble living, but still with dignity. Wars almost ceased, only some occasional guerrilla kept waging. Some people changed drastically their life out of utter fear of losing their lives. Something was lurking in the shadows and kept people in line from time to time. Even a few mobs and mafias changed their rules and tried to fit in the society. People started receiving a better education, to see the world through each other's eyes and countries started to unify themselves respecting their traditions and diversities.

Wurm traveled the world hundreds of times and discovered every nook and cranny. When they entered some regions, the death rates spiked, too - but those are other stories. From time to time they wondered what really happened in their first world, and where did they come from... in space.
