Hello fellow pewpewers!

If you're reading this then you're curious about what I have to say to help you improve your gameplay! Wether you're a well experienced player, or just hop on every now and then, I'm sure there's something useful for you in here.

This guide is aimed to help you understand several aspects of the game, and once you know them, you can abuse your knowledge and have some extra fun!

And perhaps you can get scores like these:

These screenshots are in game mode "Search and destroy". You cannot respawn.

And here's a screenshot where I'm not even host!

Though keep in mind, whatever you do, you should ALWAYS aim to have fun. If you don't have fun, stop playing and do something else.

2 Your Hardware

If you think your hardware is sufficient enough, feel free to skip to section 3.

Before we begin, you should set-up properly. What do I mean with that? It's your input devices; mouse, keyboard and speakers/headset. But don't get me wrong, it's not neccesarily required to get the following hardware, it generally just helps. You can buy a gaming keyboard and still play bad, or you could have a stock logitech keyboard and play really good.

In the following sections, I'll explain what benefits you can have with some more specific hardware

2.1 The Keyboard

My keyboard is a Logitech G-19 gaming keyboard, it has an LCD screen that I never use, and 36 configurable macros that I only use for spamming chat. Sounds useful? Not really.

However, one of the things that gaming keyboards have, it that I can press several buttons at once, and windows wont make a beep sound. This CAN be useful, but for most people, the keyboard doesn't really matter. What does matter is that you have an easy to access movement keys.

90% of the players use WSAD for movement, but when it comes to equipment everyone has his/her own preference. People with small hands will want to get everything as close to WSAD as possible, while people with bigger hands have more options. One of the most ideal situations that you can do is to make sure that EVERY game you play, the buttons are the same. This way, you will more easily remember what button does what, and you don't get confused when the buttons are different.

My recommendation: It doesn't really matter which you use. Just make sure the keybinds are what you prefer. Though a keyboard that gives light might be useful for some night people. ;)

2.2 The Mouse

My mouse is a Logitech MX-518 gaming mouse. It sounds fancy, and it kinda is. I have 2 configurable sidebuttons on the left side. 3 additional buttons on top, which 2 of those increase/decrease DPI.

You might wonder, why do I mention this to you?

You can configure the mouse buttons to do several actions to make more room near your WSAD keybindings. For example, configure 1 on the 2 side buttons to knife and get used to it. Now you have free room on E to use for other equipment. Or configure it to toggle voice chat on/off so you can tell your team that that sniper over there almost killed you. Most important thing about a mouse, is it's sensivity, or also known as DPI. (Dots Per Inch). It's important that you're familiar with your sensivity. You'll need to practise, and practise and practise a whole lot more to get used to your sensivity. But when you do, it's gonna be great. Important is that you never change your DPI settings. Make sure you can move from one side of the screen to another without hitting anything on your table. When it feels right, don't ever change your DPI settings again, or you'll get confused and your aim will be off.

My recommendation: Get a (cheap)mouse with 2 main buttons, a mousewheel and 2 sidebuttons for voice chat/knife.

2.3 The Headset

Speakers are great for that realistic feeling that you're inside the game, make sure your neighbors become deaf or annoyed, or to throw a party. For casual players, speakers is the way to go. If you want to become better and abuse the sound given to you, it's preferred that you use a headset.

My headset is Logitech G-35 gaming headset with 7.1 surround sound. This means, that if you shoot me 3 o'clock, I'll hear you shoot at 3 o'clock. If you shoot me from behind, but still far above me, I can still hear EXACTLY where you are. This is why a headset is awesome.

Modern warfare 2 supports 5.1 surround sound which can really help you become better. It can provide pinpoint accuracy when a player gives away his position. There's not much else to say about it. If you're on a budget, or simply a casual player, a default headset is fine. If you really want to up your game, you need to get a proper headset. Preferably with 5.1 or 7.1 surround sound. A microphone is a big plus too, but most headsets with surround sound have that anyway.

My recommendation: Use a headset, but preferably a 5.1+ surround sound headset

3.2 Weapons

Primary Weapons Secondary Weapons

Still reading? I admire your persistance! Next up is weapons!

I'm not going to list every single weapon that'd take SO MUCH time, and is frankly too boring to know every single one, but i'll discuss the main categories and why they are chosen for what purpose. Which weapon you choose, is completely up to you! Experiment with several weapons and find that one weapon you like the most. Don't listen to in-game people that tell you that your weapon is "noob" or "unskilled". You're not here to pleasure them, you're here to pleasure YOU. Just ignore them and play how you wanna play.

Assault RiflesUpsides

Good ammo capacity

Great for ranged combat

Alot of damage

Very versatible in most situationsDownsides

Not easy to aim with in close combat

95% movement speed

Why are they chosen?

Assault rifles are mainly chosen to be the all-round weapon. You will have great ability to kill someone on range. They are usually equipped with silencer to remain invisible on the radar or a heartbeat sensor, or otherwise FMJ to shoot through walls better.

Sub Machine GunsUpsides

Faster rate of fire

Excellent damage in close combat

Full 100% movement speedDownsides

Damage will become less when the range increases

Harder to aim at longer ranges

Why are they chosen?

They are mianly chosen by people who want to rush fast and stab people in the back. SMGs are great for close quarter combat maps as well. Your faster rate of fire and faster mobility will give you the edge in any close combat encounter.

Light Machine GunsUpsides

Huge ammo capacity

High damage on all ranges

High rate of fire

Able to take out most airsupportDownsides

Slow reload

Is very loud

Very difficult to aim in close combat

Movement speed is only 87.5%

Why are they chosen?

LMGs are generally useful for spraying at the enemy direction for surpressive fire. In turn, your teammates can flank the enemy position and take them out while they are afraid to go ahead because there's some lunatic firing like a madmen. It's also excellent for taking out air support quickly, like that one UAV you don't wanna waste missiles on.

Sniper RiflesUpsides

Usually one hit kill

Excellent range

Excellent accuracy

Able to quickscope

Full 100% movement speed

Camouflage suitDownsides

When you miss, people know your location

You won't always get a onehit.

Can be a problem in Close Combat

Very slow rate of fire

Why are they chosen?

Snipers are generally chosen for those people that want one hit kill. They take high vantage points and take out people who are an easy target. Alternatively, some people choose a sniper for their ghillie suit. They'll rush people with a knife or shotgun while hiding in the grass. They won't be easily spotted, escpially with cold blooded pro. This also makes the perfect combo for ninja defuse.

Riot ShieldUpsides

Can't be killed from the front when the riot shield is up

Can be a great distraction and support

Blocks grenade and stun damage

Still works on your back when you use a secondary

You can use stun and throwing knife for fast executionDownsides

You can't shoot

You're vulerable from the sides and in the back

You move at 80% speed

Flashbangs still blind you and could cause your death if you look away by accident

You rely on your team most of the times

Why is it chosen?

Riot shields typically have 2 types. One of those is a lone wolf that will stun you and then use a throwing knife or c4 to kill you. The other type is purely support. You're there to distract and protect your allies. Either by standing in front of your allies to shield them from damage and creating a perfect cover, or trying to attract bullets trying to flank a player, but making sure your enemy sees so they will focus on you. This will leave them vulerable, and your teammates can swoop in for the kill.

Machine Pistols Upsides

High damage in close combat

High rate of fire

Good accuracy (Note: Not akimbo)

Decent ammo capacity

Akimbo option for double damageDownsides

Less accuracy on longer range

Why are they chosen?

Typically chosen by snipers or people with assault rifles to make up for the close combat loss.

Akimbo will net a great killing chance if your enemy is very close. Overall a very good all-round weapon.

Shotguns Upsides

Insane damage

Wide spread

One hit kill possibilities (Note: Not all)

High rate of fireDownsides

Totally useless on medium to long ranges

Why are they chosen?

Shotguns are great for maps with hallways and many rooms. Most shotguns have a 1 hit kill chance, but you need to get close to do so. They are mainly paired up with rushers to get to the target as soon as possible. Auto shotguns also allow the user to miss a few shots while still have devastating capabilities.

Handguns Upsides

High damage

High accuracy

Very fast weapon switchDownsides

Limited ammo

Less useful on long ranges

Why are they chosen?

Preferred by snipers and rushers alike. Pistols are generally underrated but have excellent accuracy and damage. They can 2-3 hit you in rapid succession, and because of the quick swap from primary to secondary, it can be applied lethaly if you know what you're doing. Pistols also have the unique ability for the Tactical Knife attachment. This will allow for a MUCH faster melee.

Launchers Upsides

High damage versus aircraft

One hit kill versus players (depends on proximity)

Lock-on on location or aircraft (Note: Not all)Downsides

Very low ammo

Very low rate of fire

When you're out of ammo, you don't have a usable secondary weapon

Why are they chosen?

Enemy Airsupport. It's a simple as that. Most players grab a javelin or stinger to make sure those aircraft won't stay up long to do any real damage. You can also use some RPGs on your assault rifle class. This way, if someone is camping, you can pull out your rpg and blow them to smithereens!

3.2.1 Weapons Worth Mentioning

Several weapons stand out, and I'd like to address them on why people choose those weapons.

This is not me trying to flame/insult a person's weapon choice. Simply an explanation why people choose which weapons.

These weapons are used commonly by people, or have unique properties.

You should experiment with every weapon and see which you like the most.

Don't be afraid to use a weapon not on this list, for example Mini uzi.

Try and find your favorite weapon!

ACRThe ACR has very low recoil, making it a (personal) favorite among several players. It has moderate damage and is great for anti-sniping tactics. It's heavily lacking in firepower in close range though, but the extreme low recoil still makes it worth it.

Scar-HThe Scar says it in the name. It leaves you with a scar! It can 2 hit you on long ranges making this a very powerful weapon. As an assault rifle, the range is more than adequate for general purposes. It has less ammo than the other assault rifles, to make up for the extra damage.

Another bonus is the grenade launcher underbarrel reload speed. What do I mean exactly? When you fire a tube, you can reload halfway, cancel the animation by briefly sprinting or changing weapon, and the scar will be reloaded. effectively reducing your reload time by half.

Tip: All weapons have this reload glitch, but the timings are different. Experiment ingame!

UMP45The UMP45 is a submachine gun and not supposed to have high damage on long ranges. However, for some reason it does. This can make it an effective killing machine on all ranges since it's an SMG. It's a favorite in ESL games. On some occasions it may look on having no recoil at all, and on other situations it had loads.

M93 RafficaM93 Raffica, often used akimbo. It has decent accuracy and with one click of the button, you're dead, or if you're lucky, barely. If used akimbo, it's generally based on luck. You can kill someone on medium range with one click, or missed everything with several clicks. It hurts alot and you should be cautious

G18Another secondary that's almost always used in akimbo. Without akimbo, it's really hard to aim.

Though most poeple using this type of weapon don't intend on aiming. They'll just spray and fire.

Guranteed that they get quite a lot of kills.

M16 or Famas3 burst assault rifle. If you hit all 3 bullets, your target is dead. If you're a good aim, this is one of good weapons for you to try. Damage is higher than the usual assault rifles, so taking out UAVs with these is easier as well.

F2000A very interesting weapon indeed. It's an assault rifle with high recoil, high fire rate and low damage. underclassed by almost everything else. If you fancy yourself a Call of Duty pro, try winning with an F2000. I assure you it'll be a challenge.

RPDOne of the most useful machine guns in the game. If used with the grip attachment, the recoil will be insanely low, while the damage is high. It has less ammo that it's other LMG counterparts. A good versatible weapon.

3.3 Equipment

Primary EquipmentSpecial Grenades

Knowing you have equipment, and how and when to use it properly, is very imporant. If you have 1 stun grenade left and you see 2 enemies in front of you, one is close and one is far away, what will you do? You won't have time to think because you will be dead if you do. I'd throw the stun to the nearest player, try to find cover, shoot the one that is far away, and depending if I succeeded or not, or on how long it takes, flank the close one and kill him.

Though there are many IFs in that story, and even then, it's different for each situation. The point is though, that without that stun, you're most likely dead. So your reaction time needs to be fast, and you need to know what you have. Do you have C4 or claymore? Throwing knife or semtex? Semtex or frag? Flashbang or stun? All of these have unique properties and if used incorrectly, will leave you vulnerable.

Tip: You can use most equipment during a climb or on a ladder!

Let's make another list of all the equipmens, and point out what makes them special

Frag GrenadeFrag grenades are a less common sight in multiplayer. You can cook a frag and die holding it or you can throw it on extreme ranges, even futher than semtex can. It can roll down hills, corners and stairs. You can bounce it off walls. The only downside is that whatever you do, it takes roughly 4 seconds to explode.

SemtexSemtex is the most commonly used lethal grenade. You can 'Fire and forget'. Throw it somewhere and move to another side. Throw and jump at a 45 degree angle and you'll get maximum range, it wont reach the ground because it'll explode in air. Semtex can be stuck on any walls, but also on enemies and friendly! Try sticking a semtex to an enemy riot shield. He'll die no matter what. Or stick a semtex on a friendly, and make him rush the enemy side! Semtex typically take 3 seconds to detonate, which is shorter than a frag grenade.

Tactical InsertionTactical insertions are underrated as well. You can place them anywhere you like, and next time you die, you'll respawn at your tactical insertion. (Note: Not in Search and Destroy)

This can be extremely useful in example, Domination. If your team is losing point A, and your tactical insertion is close. You get killed and respawn near point A. You now have the perfect chance to defend point A. Tactical Insertion has more uses. If you're the sneaky scout guy, you can place a tactical insertion purely for the purpose of being destroyed. Why? Because when an enemy destroys it, you'll know that he or she is at that location!

Throwing KnifeThrowing knives are an interesting equip. You can throw them and pick them back up. If they hit an enemy they will die instantly, even if it's in the foot. They are usable on ladders. They don't make much sound. The only downside is that they might be hard to aim, but don't let that stop you from trying it! Experiment with this and see if you like it. For the advanced users, You can use throwing knife to cancel specific animations, such as a sniper shot to make it silent. Or switch to throwing knife and instantly back on a riot shield to have a faster melee speed.

Blast ShieldBlast shield is one of the less useful equipment. They add resistance to explosions and special grenades and can surely help in many situations, however, a direct hit with a grenade launcher on someone with blast shield will still die. Making this a rather less effective equipment to use.

It also limits your view, which is something that bothers most people as well.

ClaymoreClaymores, god I love them. A directional motion-triggered explosive device. It's a great way to cover your flank areas. Or protect your flag from being captures, or to secure a bomb site, or simply in a high activity area. The claymore is one of the commonly used explosive. They tend to kill alot and nearly always with one hit. I once took scavenger and claymores in a search and destroy match. I placed a claymore, and someone walked over, boom dead. I grabbed his supply and place the claymore again on the same spot. Another enemy walks over, boom dead. I took his supply and placed it on the same spot AGAIN. Yeah you guessed it, another one walked over and died. That's half of the enemy team i just took out by placing claymores. There will be more information about proper claymore placing later in the guide. Will be temporarily disabled when hit by a stun grenade or flashbang. C4 and claymore disappear in default game modes when you die. (Note: Not in Search and Destroy)

C4C4 is a throw sticky explosive that has to be manually triggered, or triggered by an enemy explosive. The possibilities with C4 are limitless. You can throw it in a window and let it blow in-air. You can place it on point B and let it blow if someone tries to take it. Or perhaps on the bomb-laptop and let it blow when someone tries to defuse it. The possiblities are limitless, Though your throw range won't be that far, so I recommend that you either use it to flush out campers or to protect specific areas of the map. You can also make a chain explosions with claymore and c4 combined. Will be temporarily disabled when hit by a stun grenade or flashbang. C4 and claymore disappear in default game modes when you die. (Note: Not in Search and Destroy)

Tip: Double tap F to make your C4 explode faster! Stun GrenadeCommonly used by most players. These fast to throw grenades will render your enemies unable to move. You can use them find hitmarks and make them effective scout nades. Or throw them on enemy explosive to temporarily disable them so you can sneak past. Be warned, that even though enemies will have limited movement, they can still move a little! If combined with increased DPI settings on a mouse, they can still move properly and shoot if they see you coming.

Stun grenades only explode when they hit a surface. This means that you can throw them in the air at an 85 degree angle, and you will be able to hit an enemy at the otherside of the wall.

Flash BangLess commonly used, the Flashbang can be extremely effective. It detonates after roughly 2-3 seconds at all times and it takes about double the time opposed to stun to throw it. If the flashbang is very close to you, you will be unable to see anything for at least 5 full seconds! Needless to say this can be very problematic for you. Though keep in mind that it's only blindness! You can stll run and move! Try to get cover and prone once you get hit by one. Flashbangs are also effective at scouting. Throwing them in the air will result in a wide area of effect. If you get any hitmarks, you'll know an enemy is close. But since you threw it in the air, the enemy will only have minor effects. They can still see for 75% of the actual visual.

You can temporarily disabled enemy explosives with Flashbangs.

Smoke GrenadeSmoke grenades are underused, underrated special grenades. There are several applications in which you can use a smoke grenade effectively. Typically there's 2 ways. One is that you throw a smoke right before the enemies eyes, do you can pass an area undetected. Another way is that you throw a smoke where nobody is, purely for the purpose of distracting your enemies while you sneak past when they look the other way. You can combine this on defense as well, with friendly claymores. If you know the enemies is going to rush in, put a smoke on your claymores, and they'll never know what hit them! Thermal is another good combo to have with a smoke grenade. Simply put a smoke in the way of your enemy, and pull out your thermal weapon to shoot them.

Tip: Smoke is invisible if you look through broken glass!

3.4 Kill/Death Streaks

You're in a Domination match. Everyone on your team is trying to get a nuke. The enemy team is more organised and has people spamming UAV and CUAV. Tell me honestly, do you really think you're going to get a nuke now?

If you do think so, then you're way off, or the enemy team isn't as organised as I said it was.

Killstreaks are an imporant part of how you play, what you play, and who you play with.

As for the example above, if everyone on your team is trying to get a nuke, you won't have any additional help from UAVs or other bonusses, like sentry guns defending a specific objective.

Getting a nuke in Search And Destroy is theoritically possible, but I'd love to see you try!

That being said, it doesn't mean you shouldn't choose what you like best. but try to compromise. If you frequently play with a party of 3, let person 1 spam UAV and CUAV, person 2 could go for carepackages, and person 3 could try for nuke. While the next game, you switch roles.

Speaking of roles, killstreaks can be put into 2 roles:

Offensive and Defensive/Support Try to switch out depending on your team.

Know your team. Has everyone different kind of killstreaks?

Know yourself. Can you easily get 5 kills in a row?

Know the map. Can you even use an airstrike properly on underpass?

Know the killstreak. How effective is a stealth bomber on wasteland?

Know the proper timing. When should I use my predator missile?

Know your gamemode. Nuke on Search And Destroy!! I'm gonna make it this time!

Remember, knowing is half the battle.

You haven't mentioned Death streaks!!

To be honest, Death streaks are a type of preference. I personally play Search and Destroy alot. It makes me value my life and i'll try whatever it takes to stay alive. Though inevitably, you're bound to get on a bad luck streak. If that happens, I prefer pain-killer so I won't get spawnkilled.

As I mentioned before, Death streaks are a personal preferance. You'll have to choose whatever you like best.

3.5 Class Types

Now that we've discussed Perks, Weapons, Equipment and Killstreaks, It's finally time for class types! It'll be a short list of my personal perference on classes.

I would still prefer it if you experimented on your own though!

4 Gameplay

Call of Duty Multiplayer Guide image 386

You got your hardware right, and your classes are set-up properly as well! Now we're ready to rock!

It's time to delve into actual gameplay mechanics and how you can become a much better Call of Duty player!

Before I start, I'd like to point out that several strategies, like camping is NOT "noob" "bad" "not skilled" or whatever you want to call it.

Personally I think camping, or rather, Tactical waiting is a perfect way to ensure that that bomb explodes, or that this flag won't get captured. likewise as Rushing isn't noob either. It's a high risk high reward kind of gameplay. If you can pull it off, it'll be great.

Play how you wanna play! ignore everyone who insults you on it.

This section will be devided into the follow categories:

4.1 Soundwhoring

4.2 Communication

4.3 Equipment Usage

4.4 Map Recon

4.5 Offensive Gamemodes

4.6 Defensive Gamemodes

4.7 Other Gamemodes

Meanwhile while we talk about gameplay. What happens when you prone with a sniper rifle on a hill?

Be careful with clipping and bad game programmings. Specifically proning.

If you prone near a corner, you often find yourself clipping through the wall, and people can see your feet. Watch out with long rifles like sniper rifles, or akimbo models. They reach really far and often flip through walls or extend outside windows where good players can see and know where you are.

4.1 Soundwhoring [Important]

Challenge Round!

Sound.... How important it is. As previously mentioned in the headset hardware section, my 7.1 surround sound headset allows me to hear anyone, anywhere, in exact positions.

But you could be new and don't know every sound yet. What should you do? First of, i recommend that you have a headset, any type. Then grab a friend a play a random map. You will stand somewhere in a building and your friend will walk around without ninja pro. It's all about listening, what surface he is walking on, or if he walks through a bush. There's alot of thing that make sound, and different sound depending on surface. So know which surface makes which sound, you can pinpoint someone's location instantly.

But even if you have ninja, that doesn't mean everything you do is silent. There are several actions that still give you away, if you know how to look for them.

Here's a video on all the sounds in Mw2

I've been called hacker many times because someone with ninja ran through a bush and then died by my hands because I heard the bush.

Practise is all you need to do. Grab a friend, load Quarry and stand in the big warehouse at the bottom. Then close your eyes and let your friend walk around, climbing things, walking through a bush. Walk with and without ninja on different surfaces and learn the sounds. Plant the bomb and let him defuse. Let him fire a silenced weapon and see if you can hear where he is. This is one of the most important things if you want to become better at Call of Duty really fast. Listen, react, navigate, and kill!

After you've practised and go into a real lobby, you'll notice that most players don't even use ninja, so they're a dead giveaway! Now you have to make sure your aim is properly

Take a look at this video below, can you hear all the sounds?

[unfinished]

4.2 Communication

Next in line is important factor #2 Communication

You might think, but I don't have a microphone!! That's okay, you can still type to your team with teamchat pressing Y

The idea of communication is to let your team know where who and what is. If you see the bomb in Search and Destroy, TELL YOUR TEAM! If you see a sniper up in the warehouse but you can't reach him. TELL YOUR TEAM. If you notice 2 enemies that are trying try to flank your whole team, TELL YOUR TEAM. If you hear someone placing a claymore, but you're unable to shoot it, or simply wish to remain undetected, TELL YOUR TEAM where it is.

Another good example is in Estate, if you attack in SnD, you can use a scope to look to the leftside of the estate. You're most likely unable to hit anything, but you can still see the enemies that go to B bombsite. If you notice that 3 enemies go B, you'll know that 3 are near B and 3 are near A. If you have this knowledge, TELL YOUR TEAM!

Communication is important if you want to reach success even faster, but note, you DONT need a microphone. You can simply use teamchat. But when you do tell your team, make sure it's not messy or confusing. You should keep it clean and short.

A few example would be: "Bomb at A"

"3 at B"

"Sniper Warehouse"

"Camper serverroom"

Do whatever you can to inform your team of any dangerous situations.

If you're on the receiving end of these messages, keep in mind that enemies CAN MOVE. Just because player X reported someone at the hill in Afghan, doesn't neccesarily mean he's still there! See the message, keep it in mind, but do NOT rely on it to be 100% accurate.

4.3 Equipment Usage

Claymores You know what they are... Those explosives that do *CLICK* and boom. you're dead. That sucks balls. If only you could do something about it...BUT OH WAIT, YOU CAN! We'll explain 3 steps what you can about claymores. Identifying Claymores All claymores have 2 red laser lights in a 90(or something) degree angle. Which means, if you place a claymore facing North, anything between Northeast and Northwest will get hit. Always bring your best eyes to every game you play, but don't only focus on enemy player movement, look for these red laser lights, and it might save your life!

Another way to identify them is by sound. in 4.1 we made a video about all the sounds in the game. If you know the sound the claymore makes while PLACING them, you can know where they are and avoid them all together. Sometimes you're less lucky and you (accidently) trigger them. this is the claymore detonation sound, another way to identify it's a claymore. If you don't know what to do when you trigger one, you're dead. (and you should read on!)

Placing Claymores Placing claymores correctly is extremely important, for instance, if you enemies approach from the Northside and sprint to the Southside. You should NOT place a claymore facing north. Why? Because they're sprinting and it'll mean that they'll run over your claymore like it's nothing and won't even get a single scratch.

In order to correctly place a claymore, you need to ANTICIPATE your enemy movement. In the fellow example, I said they sprinted from North to South. this means, there's 3 valid ways to get a kill. One being placing on the east side, facing west. Another would be on the west side, facing east. And the final would be placing one north, facing south.

That may have sounded confusing, so here's another quick video explaining.

Dodging Claymores
Dodging a claymore is an art. No really, it is. The split second reaction when hearing a claymore can make the difference between life and death. Also, I'm obligated to tell you all, that his first commentary sounded utterly boring, so by providing him HAPPY HAPPY HAPPY HAPPY HAPPY thoughts, he made a new one. ;) Just have a look. 4.4 Map Awareness

Know the Map if I asked you where the 3 teddy bears in Highrise are, would you know where?

Is there a secret hiding spot in Invasion?

How many gravestones are in Favela?

Can you get atop of the plane in Scrapyard?

Did you know them all?

There used to be a test call Mapathy Awareness, but for some reason the website doesn't work anymore. Which is really sad.

The point of these questions, is to check your knowledge about the maps.

You have to know every single pathway in every map, if you want to become map-aware

Know which pathways there are, and how they sound. There are differound sounds for walking on snow, dirt, concrete and walkways. For instance, someone running round at quarry will sound like dirt, when he goes into the building it'll sound as concrete, when he uses the stairs, it'll sound like a walkway. These sounds a very distinctive, and give you an insanely good edge in your favor. Know the differences in sound! (video in 4.1)

If you want to know every single hiding spot, I recommend playing Hide and Seek with your friends. Note that I don't neccesarily mean modded lobbies, just host a private game, grab a ghillie suit and try to hide from your friends.

Subbase has a sneaky lil side-ledge on the 2nd floor at the server room.

Highrise has a crane, and 2 roofs, a sidewalk and a semi-hidden area.

Terminal has a plane, where you can jump ontop, and several small locations hard to spot.

Aghan also has a plane, where you can get atop and several small ledges.

Karachi has a series of jumps and if done right has access to roof and outside the map.

There are more examples, but I'm sure you get the point.

Play Search and Destroy so you spawn at 1 side and just navigate the maps. find the good spots and you'll know them when you play on public lobbies. Because any spot that you can reach, anyone else can reach as well!

Player Interface How often do you use the minimap? You have it for a reason. If enemies fire, you know where.

Make sure you can tell which sounds are produced by enemies and which by friendlies by checking the minimap. If you hear someone stomping around, check your minimap. Could it be produced by a teammate? Yes? Ignore the sound. No? Which direction did it came from, where is it going? Cut him off or follow him, either way, you have a significant advantage now!

You see the green icon B. That means that point B is owned by your team. Good to know.

When it turns red, the enemy team has it. obviously, also good to know.

But what about inbetween? Have you ever noticed what the icon does when someone tries to capture a point? It'll blink! If your green icon is blinking, the enemy is trying to capture your point!

This is your time to detonate your C4 placed on that point, or throw a semtex at the point in order to kill them. Likewise, when the red icon is blinking, your team is trying to capture it. You should help or support them if you can, or defend one of your other points.

Take note of your ammo capacity and ammo count. If you notice that you have 5 bullets left, try to find a different weapon from fallen players, or get ready to use your secondary.

You have a compass on screen too! Though not many players realise or use it, with a good team, you could possibly make it to good use. Alternatively, you can name and learn specific locations, should that enemy flank or surpress you, you could just say "Enemy Serverroom".

4.5 Movement

Taking CoverBy know, you should know how important sound and map-awareness is. This is the time to put it to good use. You should know most hiding spots, but additionally, you should also learn the locations of good cover objects. Why cover? That answer should be easy. If you can minimize how much the enemy can shoot on you, while maximize how much you can shoot the enemy, it's pretty much guranteed that you're gonna win.

If you rush the enemy base, rush in bursts, from cover to cover and your chance of surviving is significantly improved. Running around carelessly will get you off-guard and most likely killed, unless you're absolutely sure what you're doing.

If you have to break cover, make sure the coast is clear and where you're going next. Don't be afraid to stay on your location an extra 3 seconds before you move, though I wouldn't recommend staying too long, because if a sniper sees you, you're dead. You won't have time to think in-game, so knowing when and where to move come natural to you. Everyone has a specific playstyle through each map. Optimize yours so that you're always (a little) protected from random objects. Even walls if you just want to block a side that would leave you otherwise exposed.

Sometimes people are smart like you, and will take cover as well. This should be seen as an equal fight, and it'll all come down to weapon type, aim, equipment, map awareness and luck.

Here's a video about cover view and also important: cover penetration. Yes, that's what she said!

Tactical Retreat
Every game you play in, you take cover, and the good ones too. Good! But oh no! 3 enemies come at the same time! The only times you're gonna win 3v1 at the same time is with incredible amount of luck and a VERY good ping(or really bad so they miss). Instead of forcing a heads-on where you will almost always lose, consider making a tactical retreat. There's no shame in retreating so you can pick them off 1 by 1, not in the slightest. It's actually rather smart. Why would you risk dying if you can win with certainty? The idea here is use your equipment to bait your enemy if the enemies have too much numbers. Or otherwise use equipment to slow them down, while you can get a safe position. There are many situations where a (small or short) retreat is extremely effective. Think about stunning an area while you take a small detour so you can backstab them. The element of surprise is beyond helpful and can make every game easy. Think about it if you happen to die and reflect on your actions while you watch the killcam.

The stand-off
Sometimes, there's simply no other way. There's no cover, there's too much open ground so you can't make a tactical retreat, and even if you did, the enemy would knew you tried and it wouldn't be effective anyway. This is what I call, the (mexican) standoff. It often occurs when you run around a corner without pre-aiming while an enemy is exposed as well. Here's what gonna happen: A: You have very good ping and you can easily get the drop on him by either shooting or knifing. B: You have horrible ping and you'll most like die by statements mentioned above. C: You have equal ping and it's a "fair" standoff, relying on your perks, movement ability, weapon, and luck. Most of the time, C happens. If it does happen you should think to yourself what class you are. (note that you should know this before you choose a class) If you're a sniper, don't even think about trying to hit him close range, knife or switch to secondary. If you have an SMG, you can probably jump aside and hipfire your target. If you're an assault person you can do this as well, but hipfiring with assault rifles tends to be rather ineffective due to the amount of misses. In all cases though, there's 2 main tricks you can do. The first one is called "Dropshot". This is where you prone immediatly after you realize that this is going to be a standoff. The logic behind this is that you're making your body smaller to hit for the enemy, thus making it an efficient 'cover'. Another bonus is, is that your hipfire is improved alot while in the prone position. So if you're unsure, just prone instantly when an enemy is close, and try to kill them! The other trick is the "jumpshot". Often applied to people guarding/defending/camping a specific location, like a house entry. Depending on the situation, you could jump as far as you can from left side of your enemies screen to the right, so his aim will be off. Since you're jumping in 1 straight movement, your aim will suffer far less and your 0.3 second ping advantage should give you your kill you've been waiting for. Remember you can combine these 2 tricks, making it an effective strategy to deploy at any given time. [/list Tactical RetreatEvery game you play in, you take cover, and the good ones too. Good! 5 Tips And Tricks

And that was pretty much my entire guide! If you're still reading then you, sir, are in need of an award. (I'm just not the one that's going to give it.)

A few tips and tricks that came to mind, some of which you may have already read.

Your reload time can be reduced slighty by cancelling the animation when your hud displays you have reloaded.

You can reload inbetween bullets when firing the m1014 and striker.

A large gun like a sniper rifle will stick out, so don't go close to windows.

Watch out if you prone, your legs might also stick out and go through walls.

Watch out with a riotshield, it has a bigger character, and will stick out when crouching.

Blinking objective icons are objectives that are being captured.

Double tap F to detonate your C4 much faster.

Using Aim down the sight, you will move silently.

Equipment can be used on ladders and during a climb.

Ranger akimbo can effectively be used by shooting the left one emty and reload, while having the right one ready if another enemy comes

Stun grenades and Flashbangs will directhit kill an enemy in Last stand

Most actions make sound, listen carefully!

You can cancel some animations like a sniper rifle shot with a throwing knife. Possibly making the actualy shot silent to others.

Red dot sights will free up more space around your scope, and should not be underestimated.

If you get stunned or flashed, prone immediatly or throw a stun/flash yourself to the enemy direction.

Take cover at all times

Make sure you have map-awareness by knowing where your teammates are and where nobody appears to be

If your gun can fire as an automatic, doesn't mean you should do it. try burst firing.

Semtex stuck on you can deal 0 damage if you clip the part with semtex through a solid wall.

You can fake your own death by proning and pressing weapon switch every 0.1 second.

There are many explosive objects around each map, find them and abuse them.

6 Always Act Nice

It's just a game. You play against other people, real people. Humans beings of flesh and blood.

You should always try to be nice whatever happens. Respect eachother, and they will respect you.

Someone might insult you for a whole day, but that does not mean you have to insult him back. For all you know, that person could have lost his brother today on a car accident and is really upset.

General rule: Respect others, and in return, you'll be respected as well. Having a postive attitude will help you achieve many great things in life. And not to mention much more friends. It'll make your life a happier place!

If you like to play with an UMP45. Then do it. If you dislike the G18 Akimbo and someone else is using it against you. Don't insult him. It's a game, with public players. Play how you want to play.

If you don't want people to use a specific type of weapon, make a private lobby! You can make the rules there.
