After logging into your preferred server and room, you will see a button 'create' at the bottom of the screen. Clicking on it will bring you to the character selection screen.

You have three options, The Mosswalker, The Dimmed, and The Weatherer

The Weatherer and The Dimmed play alike, save The Dimmed cannot have children.

The Mosswalker can have children, and has a different skill set. (v0.0.4p4)

Here you may choose to have a child or not.

The option is the check at the bottom of the screen.

The trait list depends on the form you chose.

The remaining options have no effect on gameplay. (v0.0.4p4)

You may select 3 skills. The Mosswalker has only two currently available, but you still must select them on this screen to have access in game. (v0.0.4p4)

The Dimmed and The Weatherer have 4.

It is recommended you take the assemble fireplace skill if you are playing as one of them, it will dry you when you are wet, and fire is required to brew tea.

Skills can be clicked to pull up a brief description.

Here you may choose your eye color, voice, and add some flavor text. No gameplay effect.(v0.0.4p4)

All starting equipment is random, but you can re-roll as many times as you like by clicking the button with the die. All equipment, except for Factory-made/small Alken Lanterns and Heavy Tombac Lantern, has no cosmetic or gameplay effect. (v0.0.3p2)

You can save a set of equipment you like by using "Store", and can come back later after rolling again with "Recall".

Your name is randomly generated (v0.0.3p2). Click the 'first name' or 'last name' button to re-roll your first or last name respectively. You can add a nickname as flavor text.

The Store and Recall system works in the same way as it did for equipment.

You can now create your new character !

Getting Started And Avoiding Permadeath

To move your character, you need to click on the screen and your character will go to the indicated point (screenshot of the pointer). You can also move the pointer around with WASD or with the arrow keys.

Left click will start your character walking to wherever you selected. Middle click makes your character say "ey", it also makes your child or pet(not yet implemented) return to you. Right click functions like 'left click', but you run instead of walk. Running costs stamina. (the white bar)

When using the right click on an icon, you often can have more information about it (details on abilities or items in your inventory)

In the top left of your screen is your health (referred to as energy in game) and your stamina.

Your energy will drain slowly over time as you explore the world. Various status effects will drain your energy faster.

Once your energy runs out, you will collapse of exhaustion.

If no one is there to help you back up, you'll pass out and lose a life petal. Lose all four, and you die. Permanently. (v0.0.4p4)

The most common problem new players face is starvation.

Your first objective should be to find food. Various merchants sell food, and sometimes edibles spawn in lootable containers. Food merchants are here: (list of locations if not marked on map) (marked as spoilers?)

-(Map showing traders with food, and maybe food spawn points)

Lootable ObjectsWhen your mouse hovers over a lootable object, the object will glow. Click to move to it. An icon will appear to loot the object.

If you've found something, open your inventory to examine the object. Your inventory is the sack icon on the bar in the middle of the screen.

Right click the item in your inventory to show more information. If the item you found is edible, it will say so directly underneath the picture.

Press the 'eat' button at the bottom left of the information card to consume the item.

Item RarityFood with a deep blue background restores a lot of energy, removes hunger, and is expensive. Food with a white or brown background will restore a tiny bit of energy, remove hunger, and is cheap. Light blue is a middleground between the two.

[Trade goods and equipment follow this pattern to indicate value.

Combat

BoT Beta Beginner's Guide image 89

In order to fight, you need a weapon.

Without a weapon you cannot initiate combat.

To enter a combat stance, press the 'unsheathe weapon' button in the bottom right.

You will see a white circle appear around you, a black aura above your head, and your cursor will change into a sword. Any NPCs nearby will also have an aura.

(on OSX and Linux, the aura might appear as a black rectangle v0.0.4p4)

-(Combat ready image)

You may only fight certain NPCs. NPCs must both be inside your combat circle, and change your cursor to a sword with slashing effects when you hover over them. (better phrasing?)

-(slashy sword image)

Press the same button as you did to enter combat to sheathe your weapon. (image?) There is no penalty for entering and exiting a combat ready state near NPCs. Enemies will only enter combat if you or another player initiates it.

List of enemiesCertain Bandits (image optional)

Certain Wardens (image optional)

Certain Mystics (image optional)NPCs you can fight spawn very rarely

FightingTo start combat, click your chosen adversary. Sometimes (rarely), NPCs of the same type will all attack you if they are within your combat radius.

During a fight, your character will auto-block all the attacks from 2 enemies. Fighting more than 2, you may get hit and run the risk of losing a life petal.

To attack, click your opponent. An attack animation will play. Enemies will need several hits to be killed.

You may flee from combat by running out of the orange circle.

Equipment has no effect on combat. (v0.0.4p4)

Post CombatAfter successfully defeating your opponent, your character will hyperventilate and you will become tired. Rest to remove this effect.

You can loot an enemy corpse by clicking on their pouch. This is one way of acquiring knots and teas, though it is not always reliable.

FleeingYou can flee combat if you exit the red circle. An icon will appear, and by clicking on it, a map change loading screen will trigger and your character will go to one of the neighbouring maps.

You'll find containers of objects or plants scattered all around the Braided Shore. Here is a list of what loot containers and plants that you can harvest look like !

Book Of Travels, The Compendium (downloadable App)

BoT Beta Beginner's Guide image 117
BoT Beta Beginner's Guide image 118

This tool was created in an effort to put together all the findings while wandering the different zones of the game and hopefully provides some orientation to lost Travellers.

The guide can also be used for testing purposes, to quickly see where certain endeavours or loot containers can be found.

InstallationClick the link to download the current version of the tool:

https://drive.google.com/file/d/1bwHX-1gjB1oScWfbSm02WXpX7Z_oXTzC/view?usp=sharing

Install the app (you might get a warning by Windows, but you can ignore that).

The buttons on the left will take you to the respective resources to see bug reports, join Might and Delight Discord etc.

In the top right corner you can toggle between windowed and fullscreen mode. In the lower right corner you can close the tool. Clicking on “Skill Book” will take you to a place where you can toggle between knots, teas, abilities and passives. Clicking on “Maps” will take you to an interactive map, where you can hover with the cursor over the different zones. Clicking on a highlighted zone will take you to the detailed map.

Here you can get a more detailed overview of the zones. On the right side of the screen you can turn on and off indicators on the map where to find collectibles, endeavours etc.

When you click on one of these icons and nothing happens, it either means we didn’t find it yet or none of it is located there.

We hope you will find this tool handy and it will help you in one way or another while travelling this beautifully crafted world.

Use it with caution to not spoil your adventures!

Please feel free to message us if you find a bug, new collectibles, endeavours and what not. :)

Being A Beta Tester

BoT Beta Beginner's Guide image 133
BoT Beta Beginner's Guide image 134
BoT Beta Beginner's Guide image 135

You are a Beta Tester, which means that the game is very much a work in progress. Part of the joy of being a tester is watching as the game world grows and evolves into a finished state. You can help that process by submitting bug reports, which is an option you'll find in the Settings menu after hitting escape.

You can take screenshots using the aperture icon at the bottom of the screen.Selecting 'Report Bug' will pull up a menu with a blank text box you can write in as well as a drop down menu on the right you can use to select screenshots to attach to your report.

That will submit a report to Trello, which you can view selecting the 'Trello' button after your report was submitted.

You can vote on bug reports in Trello to communicate to the devs which bugs you would like to be addressed first. Then, the wonderful developers will try their best to tackle what they can.
