Controller mapped incorrectly? Here's your fix. (PS4 controller)

Introduction

Recently connected my PS4 controller to my PC to better control aircrafts. As soon as I launched the game, I realised that no single button was correctly mapped. I spent a couple of days searching and this was the fix I came to. I'm posting this here as I honestly couldn't find any solutions that worked, and maybe this could help someone who's facing the same issue.

Important Note

This fix does not need any file editing of Steam or the EA app, disabling "Xbox configuration support", reinstalling drivers, using Big Picture mode, etc. I'll do my best to keep this very straightforward and I'm more than happy to answer any questions.

Step-by-step Guide:

Connect your controller.

Launch Steam and select Battlefield 2042 from your library.

Right-click on Battlefield 2042 (from your library list on the left), go to "Manage", and then "Controller Layout". Alternatively, after selecting the game, you can click on the controller icon on the right middle side of the Steam app. The "Controller Layout" option will only be visible if your controller has been recognised by Steam.

Enable Steam Input

Now we need to change the current button layout as the default recommended layout didn't work for me. Click on box under the heading "Current Button Layout". A new window will open that will allow you to install templates or install community layouts.

Click on "Search" then search for and click on "The layout that works for BF2042 for PS4 Controller" (this is my shareable upload of the template that I'm currently using). *Alternatively, open your default browser and copy paste the layout link: steam://controllerconfig/1517290/3310288099

*I did not have many successful attempts loading the controller layout using the Steam link. Seems to be an issue with Steam.

After clicking on the layout, find and click on "Apply Layout" in the bottom right corner.

Close the "Controller Setting" window

Finally, disconnect the controller, restart Steam and reconnect your controller.

Congratulations! Now you should be able to use your PS4 controller on Steam with no issues.

Honourable mentions: Steam user - enzoxmiguel, as it was his layout that my layout is based on.

Feel free to ask any questions and I hope to respond in time!
