With this guide i wanna clear up some problems with Anno 1404/Anno 1404: Venice because there are currently daily the same questions.

So all you need is now to click on the right side on your problem and you will get your answer.

If you have still a problem you can write into the comments so i can improve the guide. ;)

Before you read forward, be sure you Verify Integrity of Game Cache so there is really no problem with your files.

Configuration & Gameplay Problems

- How To I Build A Spice Hut?

Yes this was really a question so don't be shy to ask other question like this one so i can update this guide :D

First you need to find the island of Grand Vizier Al Zahir. He is always in the youth of the map aswell as the eastern islands.

After you found the island sail to Northburg's island. There you can trade your honor for prestige scrolls which will be stashed in your ship.

Then sail to Al Zahirs Island and he will ask you if you bring him a gift.

After the first presitge scroll is given to Al Zahir, you get a loaded caravel, which can be used to establish a settlement in the Orient.

- Minimap Bug

There are wo different bugs which are the following.

If you have one of this bugs be sure you have the newest version of your GPU driver installed.

You can also try to change the DirectX Version from 10 to 9 as kheritian did it, so thanks that you share your solution for your problem ;)

- Anno Isn't Starting/Blackscreen

As i wrote before some of the solutions are in my other guide. This one is a problem with steam or the steam overlay so please read in my other guide to solve it

- World Editor (install And Use)

Many players wanna create their own world but if you have the steam version of the game you have a big Problem. The world editor isn't really working on the fly, because the installer is searching the game under the retail install dir.

How you can solve the Problem?

You have to edit the windows registry, but be sure you make a backup before!

1. Create this key:

HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Wow6432Node\Ubisoft\Anno 1404\GameUpdate

2. Add these two values to the key GameUpdate:

installdir

execpath

3. Copy these values:

HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Wow6432Node\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Uninstall\Steam App 33250

4. Insert the copied values here (you have to create the key before)

HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Wow6432Node\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Uninstall\{3D9CF3CA-3AB0-4A82-9853-D7C43FD1D775}

5. Do the same for:

HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Wow6432Node\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Uninstall\{6A09EC92-016B-4032-8CF1-6840B20C254A}

Info #1: The bold words are the key you have to create

Info #2: I am not responsible for any damage to your Windows registry! This is only a solution how it works! Everyone has to decide whether he wants to use the Tool or not

- Engine.ini (borderless Fullscreen, Language Etc.)

Before we start you need o know where you can find the file and there we are

C:\Users\Username\AppData\Roaming\Ubisoft\Anno1404Addon\Config

Quick open the file:

Press the Window Key on your keyboard and type in (or copy and paste it)

%appdata%/Ubisoft/Anno1404Addon/config/engine.ini

If you have only Anno 1404 (without Venice) you need to open

C:\Users\Username\AppData\Roaming\Ubisoft\Anno1404\Config

Quick open the file:

Press the Window Key on your keyboard and type in (or copy and paste it)

%appdata%/Ubisoft/Anno1404/config/engine.ini

Borderless Fullscreen

You can't set borderless fullscreen InGame but you can set it in your Engine.ini

Open the Engine.ini and search for

Change it to "1" (without "") and save the file, then start your game

Change the language of the game

Anno 1404 supports English, Spanish, French, Italian, and German.

Same as before open the Engine.ini

Search for

Change it to

French: <LanguageTAG>fra</LanguageTAG>

German: <LanguageTAG>ger</LanguageTAG>

Italian: <LanguageTAG>ita</LanguageTAG>

Spanish: <LanguageTAG>esp</LanguageTAG>

If it don't work look into "...\steamapps\common\anno 1404\addon". You need the following 5 files in the folder, if they are not in please verifiy your files so steam can download them!

eng0.rda

esp0.rda

fra0.rda

ger0.rda

ita0.rda

Multiplayer Problems

Personally i don't play the multiplayer with other people then my friends and i never have any issue.

So i collect every problem i could find and try to get a solution.

- No Venice In Multiplayer?

Good question but are you sure you started Venice? Or did you have Venice?

Only if you have and start venice you can play Venice in multiplayer.

- Continue A Multiplayer/lan Session

To continue a multiplayer seassion with your friends you have to setup a new Session but instead of creating a new season you must have also a button "load"!

If you press the buttonn the first savegame have to be your MP Session so click it. After you clicked the game creates a new session!

Now your friends can join the game.

If you don't have a Load-Button look for the Option ""Game Type = Standard", click on it and change it to "Saved".

Attention:

You can only continue a multiplayer/lan session with the same players as before.

So if you are 5 players before the same 5 players have to be part of the session or they are defeated! This means if they don't wanna play now but later they can't join the game anymore!

- Can't Join Multiplayer (Ports, ISP Etc.)

If you have problems to join a multiplayer session please be sure your ISP is not blocking ports.

So if you have any trouble with openning the ports for Anno 1404/Anno 1404 Venice you need to contact your ISP!

Ports:

UDP: 9100, 9103, 16000

Open them in your firewall and if you have a router you also need to port forward them. If you don't know what port forwarding is please use google because every router is different. I can only give a example with a Fritzbox if someone need one.

If there are some Anno 1404 entries in your firewall ignore them and setup new rules with the ports because sometime the auto entries don't work as they should. Also setup a rules for both exe files, sometimes it helps if they are also in the Firewall bound to the ports.

Also be sure your anti virus program isn't blocking the steam folders! Setup a rule, if you can, and whitelist the anno folder or as i have done the complete steam folder.

Login Or Profile Problems

There could be some problems if your password did not match the criteria or you are trying to use a wrong username. In both situation the game can respond with "Profile Download failed" instead of "Wrong Login"

Before you are pressing any button you have to login to your Online-Profile first!

So go to "Player Profile" -> "Player Management" -> "Download Profile" and login in!

Did you change your Uplay Username?

Anno 1404/Anno 1404 Venice needs your legacy username or your email adress.

The legacy username is the username you registered by Ubisoft/Uplay!

Older games which are released before 14. October 2014 needs this username to login.

Where can i find my legacy username?

If both is not working please read forward :/

Did your password have special characters?

Older Ubisoft games can't handle some special characters such as: - _ }{\><:"£=$§^

As far is i know the game can handle: @?!/&%

If you have special characters in your password and your login is working then please can you write them down (only the special characters! I don't wann klnow your password) into the comments so i can update this part of the guide

How long is your password?Passwords must be at least 8 characters long and a maximum of 16!

In know there is no limit if you enter it but as before older games can have a problem with to long passwords.
